Ertl Die-Cast Vehicles.Ertl was perhaps then best known for making accurate farm tractor replicas, but they took the ball dropped by Corgi sometime in the ’80s and ran with a line of die-cast vehicles based on the film. From micro sets to the usual 1/64 scale to bigger, heavier affairs, and even their unique Wrist Racers (cars that launch from a band on your wrist!), there seemed to be an endless supply of Batmobiles, Batwings and Joker Vans on the shelves everywhere. My only quibble was the Bat-symbol they slapped on everything (it’s kind of obvious who these vehicles belong to, people), and the strangely deformed Joker Van in the standard “Hot Wheels” scale. Other than that, this line still holds up. That large Batwing is HEAVY!BATMAN ’89 WEEK wouldn’t be complete without a look at all the incredible swag that was produced to capitalize on the second coming of Batmania. One of the reasons why Nicholson stole the scene from his Batman co-star Michael Keaton was a treasure trove of endlessly repeatable Joker quotes that continue to stand the test of time. Few film versions were as chatty as Burton's, and because of that, the debate will continue to rage on as to who the best Joker was. What was fun about The Batcave was that it was actually two locales in one. The front of the playset was the Batcave (as seen in the film): Gotham City is swarming with crime and only one man can stop it – the Batman. Starring the renowned actor Michael Keaton as the nocturnal crime-fighter, Tim Burton’s 1989 take on Batman movie which brought the Caped Crusader into the theatre was a huge hit and still stands the test of time.

And DC fans are now close to meeting Michael Keaton’s Batman again in The Flash movie, in which he’s trying to save the colliding worlds with Barry Allen! Hot Toys is excited to present the Batman (Deluxe Version) Sixth Scale Figure with a diorama base covering various ways to display for an added storytelling element.Kenner Action Catalogs, which typically came with large vehicles and playsets, revealed what could have been for the second series of The Dark Knight Collection. While the Batcave Command Center, Gotham Dragster, and Jokermobile didn't make it to shelves in fall of 1991, many of them were retooled to be included in later Batman collections like Batman: The Animated Series. Nevertheless, The Dark Knight Collection dazzled many young fans with its dark yet exciting array of figures, vehicles, and accessories and set Batman figure standards for many years to come. Step into the dynamic world of DC Comics with our LEGO® DC building toys and model building kits designed for fans of all ages. From the iconic Justice League to the menacing villains of Gotham, each set invites you to recreate epic battles, iconic scenes, and Superhero moments. It's thirty-plus years later and you're thinking of collecting this toy line for nostalgia's sake? Well, your best bet is to try to get them carded or CIB (complete in box) which is still a realistic and achievable goal. If you're buying this collection as loose figs and vehicles (which is significantly cheaper), keep in mind that the figs came with a lot of little accessories that were easy to lose and the vehicles all had attachments that kept falling off. (To date, I've never seen a loose Bob the Goon with his hat included. The hat always seems to be the first thing to get lost.) The vehicles are frequently missing the missiles, and a Batwing with an attached canopy is a rarity. If you see Batman with his original cape, functioning utility belt/batrope, batarang & grappling gun (for a reasonable price), grab it because that's as good as it gets. well, not really,... but it does make me want to reminisce about it. Namely, those very cool Batman action figures released by Toy Biz in 1989:

One (1) newly developed Batman head with separate rolling eyeball function and three (3) interchangeable faces capturing Batman’s facial expressions The Deluxe Version offers a highly-detailed diorama base, showing a corner of the ruined church roof with a spinnable sculpted statue also stones in incredible texture and detail, which allows fans to revisit the scene with Batman standing perched on the edge of the roof. It starred Michael Keaton as the multimillionaire Bruce Wayne, who has transformed himself into the crime-fighting Batman after witnessing his parents’ brutal murder as a child.

The Dark Knight Collection is notable for setting numerous standards in the Batman action figure world, such as the basic five points of articulation, "Deluxe" figures, and coinciding roleplay accessories. Perhaps the most notable, however, would be the variant concept, which continues to this day in perhaps a more drastic manner. Every Batman figure was simply a retooled version of the popular design used in 1984's Super Powers Collection and would again be used for the following movie line in 1992. In fact, repainted versions of the SPC sculpt can be spotted in some early catalog photos. This is perhaps one of its only major downfalls; out of about twenty figures, only two Jokers were produced, with the rest being variations of Batman. And while the line featured many new vehicle designs, some were actually retools from previous Kenner lines like RoboCop and the Ultra Police and SilverHawks. To accompany the 1989 Batmanfigures, Toy Bizalso produced additional DC Comics Super Heroes-- namely Robin, Superman, Wonder Woman, Lex Luthor andsome extra Bat-villains (Penguin, Riddler, Mr Freeze). A second wave of Toy BizDC action figures would then yield comic fans a Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Hawkman and a Two-Face, but that will be an article for another time. The Deluxe Version of this Batman collectible offers a highly-detailed diorama base, showing a corner of the ruined church roof with a spinnable sculpted statue also stones in incredible texture and detail, which allows fans to revisit the scene with Batman standing perched on the edge of the roof.
