and then, keeping that same position, move (turning/bending at the hips with upper body/arms remaining still) the reticle onto the subject and pan. The first interesting thing about this product is that it is compatible with any camera featuring a hot-shoe mount. TLDR: Olympus EE-1 dot sight works wonderfully on the OM-1 in conjunction with subject recognition and is much more user friendly than an adapted firearm sight that does essentially the same thing. The EE-1 externally mounted dot sight is perfect for super-telehoto photography - particularly useful with birds and wildlife. The top of the casing is only there as a sun-shade against stray light and as a finger guard to prevent touching the reticle.

Another thing I noticed is that the dials on the EE-1 can easily be moved inadvertently when operating, closing/opening or putting it away in a pocket or bag. It's easier with both eyes open which, I suspect, is how you'll want to shoot anyway, but it's doable even with one closed. It helps take the hard work out of tracking a moving subject and is especially helpful when shooting at a distance. Get some extra help when aiming at faraway or fast-moving subjects with the Olympus EE-1 Dot Sight for OM-D E-M5 Mark II or Stylus 1 Camera. The more distinct your point of reference is (for example a tree or a farm), the easier it becomes to configure the EE-1.

Parallax is more important at short camera-to-subject distances, and at large distances between the sight and the optical axis of the lens. For example if you set up everything for a 100mm lens and then change it for a 300mm lens, it is likely that you will need to reconfigure everything. Most red dot sights cannot even be zeroed/aligned at very short distances because they don't have the adjustment range.

For system cameras, it can also happen that the camera is focused to a short distance, so that the bokeh of your great telephoto lens is so beautifully even that you don’t even realize that you did have the bird in frame. If you look on the internet you can find similar products made by third party manufacturers (some also less expensive) but I have no experience with them. It is important that you remain in the same position while performing the whole operation so that your view of the LCD screen and Red Dot Sight doesn’t change much.People at my local camera club have been asking me about my EE-1 Dot Sight and asking if anybody, apart from Olympus (or OMDS) makes them. If there is a hidden switch, it does not engage until the casing is completely closed and the LED is invisible. This can create some confusion at first but in fact this is simply caused by the quick movement of your camera.
