About this deal

But, some modern designs offer a diamond frame, which is much more similar to the shape of many road bikes.

Your current bike looks like it's in good condition, so you'll be able to recoup some of that by selling it. You could keep the shifters/brake levers in the same position as they are now but this would be a disadvantage since you will have to change hand positions to be able to reach them (especially problematic when you have to brake suddenly) assuming your hands are on the top of the bars and not near the shifters/brakes. One of the Chinese startups used the securities as capital and even in a fraudulent way to delay bankruptcy. I don't want to do this, not because I can't afford it, but because I park my bike in the street all the time, and bike theft is a thing here, not a rampant problem, but it happens.A pair of traditional Dutch style parallel handlebars, of chromed steel, with quill style handlebar stem. For example, one of my family rents a good 7-speed Dutch bike for €18 a month from a Dutch start up company. There are variations, from the wide flared bars like the Nitto Albatross, to North Roads to porteur handlebars.

If you are living in one of the larger European cities you have the option of bike rental schemes that rent out decent city bikes. As an alternative to the current brake/shifter configuration you could consider using bar end brake levers and install them on the top of the handlebars so you can easily reach them from a higher up (on the bars) hand position. Some of these are junk (and single speed), but some are pretty good (and 7 speed, with probably a few 21 speed units). No matter what modern adaptations you need to your traditional urban bike, wehave a Dutch-inspired ride for you.Having experimented recently with drop bars, trekking bars (of a sort) and upright bars (Albatross shape), one observation I have is a caution for those who still ride at speed regarding braking with the swept bars. After a few days of such tours, my wrist usually starts hurting and my neck from "looking up" while biking. However, we offer one stem which can be used to change your position on a bike fitted with a threadless stem.
