I believe it is one of my favorites of the series and I am quite sure it is one I’ll read again and again. Though I gather the theme of the previous book and this one – are both a little close to home for Lieutenant Eve Dallas given her wretched beginnings. It was very interesting to see Eve, so prickly and wound up, snapping at Roarke, Peabody, and even Mavis, yet holding it all together to get the job done. But Mina didn't have the same fortune as Dorian, and it was her body that Lieutenant Eve Dallas stood over, feeling a fury building inside. It’s distasteful sure, but Robb (as usual) handles it with great pragmatism and Dallas with typical anger and hostility.

This is a sometimes long-winded novel and does deal quite a bit with Eve's past, but we are used to Eve's horrible childhood, are we not? I’ve never wanted to see villains taken down more than these despicable people who were abducting children as young as 10-years old for their nasty school.But something you know going into any Nora Roberts book, even this long series of murder mysteries, is that everything is going to turn out alright in the end. And I am so happy that Robb actually dived more into the background of some characters we have not done before like with Uniform Carmichael and Reineke. This popular series takes place in the near future and normally has a fair share of futuristic aspects.

No matter what, she must keep her head clear--because above all, she is desperate for justice and to take down those who prey on and torment the innocent. Mina and Dorian, two young girls trapped in an horrific situation, and desperate enough to plan an escape. The overarching character development spanning the breadth of the series is what makes Roberts’ work under her Robb penname so special. This story starts when Mina Cabot and Dorian Gregg, abducted teenagers, attempt to escape the Pleasure Academy where they have been imprisoned for months and trained for a life of service and exploitation.
