About this deal

The Joué Play was imagined and designed to give access to musical practice with simplicity and immediate fun, whatever your age, background or musical level. For the guitar and drum pads, these are a selection of different styles, and for the piano and key pads, there are pianos, synths, strings and the like. Responsive to natural gestures such as vibrato, bending and aftertouch, it brings your virtual instruments to life. Plug the re-Connect MIDI cable into your Joué Play and it will send native MIDI messages without any latency. Using the record button directly on your Joué Play device, start recording your melody, chord or rythm with your fingertips.

There's no obvious physical orientation to the pad, but it can be placed any way round on the Joué and still work.Available with the Pro option, the Joué Editor software allows you to edit each MIDI message sent by the Play Pads. For example, the piano doesnt detect the upper B key correctly and, when pressed, It makes It sound one semitone lower. The Grand Clavier module comes with a free custom-made soundpack for the free UVI Workstation plug-in. On another level, it’s also just fun to play instruments in a different way, moving notes and controls to see what happens in a way you wouldn’t do on an 88-key piano, for example.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I got my Raspberry Pi Zero W working with the board so even if they don’t release the fabled wireless adapter, you can still play over bluetooth. I had a lot (if not all) of the modules but it was more like a gadget than a really useful instrument. Practice by learning the basics or by replaying a selection of famous songs step by step through a series of video tutorials, also available as projects in the Joue Play App. Where appropriate (keyboards and fretboard) the modules are MPE-capable, and in non-MPE mode they support polyphonic aftertouch, although there's precious little software or hardware out there these days that can make use of it. The app allows you to easily trigger and layer sounds but, of course, the instrument works with any MIDI-capable software.

The selection of different modules (nine in total at the time of writing) covers a range of MIDI control duties, from keyboards and fretboard to knobs and faders. It feels like a premium product with an amazing finish and will definitely start conversations wherever you pull one out of your rucksack. Scaler: A full-width 17-key chromatic keyboard layout oriented towards instruments like harp or vibraphone. This does need a bit of setting up: after some experimentation I discovered that setting a glissando value of 48 semitones in the Joué editor resulted in the correct pitch generation while gliding between keys — at least, that certainly seemed to be the case with Equator and Cypher2.

A preset scale can be selected (there are 23 to choose from), and vibrato (left-right glide), Y position (slide) and aftertouch are all supported. Gestures and areas (X, Y or Z) can be mapped on each pad to control any parameters or modulate your sound.

Available as direct download in the Joue Play App, Artist Packs invite you to explore the musical worlds of renowned artists with 8 new Signature instruments to add to your library to enrich your creations. Discover a new way of making music with the Joué Play: a complete system combining an expressive multi-instrument, an intuitive application and interactive content. With the original Joue Im not sure if they ever released even a single firmware update for it during its lifetime, I know the software editor got updated sometimes but not sure the firmware ever did. When the pressure (Z) is released, the X and Y outputs snap back to 64, or any other start values you wish. I was strangely able to fiddle with the exact placement of my fingers to get the full aftertouch values while in the same “general” horizontal plane so I think there are 8 horizontal strips, with even and odd strips being shared for the 4 horizontal “areas.
