About this deal

Next thing to do is to strip both pieces of wire on each end. Again, about half an inch should be enough. Mnpctech is only source for these On/Off switches for accessories or Momentary Desktop Computer Power ON switch (ATX MAIN POWER) or sometimes referred to as the Nuke Button or Fighter Pilots.

As with Method #1, make sure your PSU is powered off and unplugged. Please keep in mind, that capacitors inside your PSU store enough current to kill (or at least make you feel uncomfortable). While we will not be working inside your PSU, keep safety in mind. If your system turns on when using the onboard power button, or when jumping the headers with a screwdriver, it could be that your case is the problem. If your case has a reset button, you’ll find it’s wired to the reset switch headers near the power button headers. Try replacing the cables to your power button headers with those from the reset button. They operate in the same way, and if the problem is the power button in your case, wiring the reset button to the power switch headers might circumvent this issue. Panel Nut - A thin hex nut that works with the washer to hold the switch to the case. Threads must match the switch body. The best way to test for a faulty case switch is to pull the case wires from the motherboard and then short the two pins that had previously led to the power switch. Personally I used the metal handle of a pair of nail clippers that were close at hand to test boot my system. That is a sentence I would never even have conceived of writing before this whole debacle, but here we are. If the switch is bad, booting this way should result in a clean launch, no crashing. If it still crashes then the switch is probably fine and you'll have to keep troubleshooting. Available Colors, Carbon Fiber, Clear, Chrome, Anodized Red & Blue 2 pin wire connectors sold separately.

If you’re not getting a POST code, and you’ve already followed the steps above, then it’s worth making sure that your motherboard’s BIOS is current. Optionally, you may chose to solder these connections in place. Make sure you are using a non-lead based solder to avoid lead poisoning. ;) My question is: Who does turn their PC off pressing the button ??? I havent pressed that button for years, i use "shut down" in Windows menu. The 'high' wire is connected to the collector and the ground wire is connected to the emitter of the transistor. (emitter & collector connections corrected - thanks to cosax for pointing this out). A post with a diagram can be found here: http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... 46#p446346

Bear in mind that these switches will require power while the PC is turned off - an external power source will need to be included in the mod. Lightly touch a metal screwdriver to the two power switch header pins, and the system will turn on if everything is connected correctly. This process accomplishes the same thing as hitting the power button on your case when properly connected, or using an onboard power button on your motherboard. Not the simplest mod, but the results are striking and can make an excellent additional detail to the right theme. Momentary" Toggle Switch replaces Main Power or Reset switch on PC. Type: On/Off 2 Pin Wire Connection. Power: 125V, 20 AMPS Type the following command to confirm the hibernation status and press Enter: powercfg /availablesleepstates

Beep codes are the auditory equivalent of POST codes. When your PC powers up, assuming it does, you might hear a series of beeps. These audio signals have the same diagnostic functionality of POST codes — for example, three beeps might mean there was no video card detected, and you would want to start with reseating your GPU.
