About this deal

The Eduqas A level Geography specification encourages learners to apply geographical knowledge, theory and skills to the world around them. In turn this will enable learners to develop a critical understanding of the world’s people, places and environments in the 21st century. Learners should be able to develop both knowledge and understanding of contemporary geographical concepts together with transferable skills that will enable learners to progress to higher education and a range of employment opportunities.

Ofqual has decided to carry forward the arrangements that were put in place for 2021 to 2022 for GCSE Geography. develop an in-depth understanding of the selected core and non-core processes in physical and human geography at a range of temporal and spatial scales, and of the concepts which illuminate their significance in a range of locational contexts

There are no previous learning requirements for this specification. Any requirements set for entry to a course based on this specification are at the school/college’s discretion. This specification builds on subject content which is typically taught at key stage 3 and is designed in such a way as to ensure progression in the following ways:

creatively, for example, by posing questions that relate to geographical processes and concepts that include questioning about spatial pattern and geographical change

Distractions

independently by applying geographical knowledge, understanding, skills and approaches appropriately and creatively to real world contexts. In so doing they should appreciate that geography can be ‘messy’ i.e. that real geography does not always match typical or predicted outcomes. For Eduqas GCSE Geography qualifications this means students will not be assessed on their own fieldwork in Component 3, but they will still be assessed on ‘unfamiliar’ fieldwork. This means that the final questions on students own fieldwork in Part A and Part B of Component 3 will be removed.

Ofqual has published its decision report on fieldwork for 2022 Decisions on arrangements for non-exam assessment and fieldwork requirements for students entering qualifications in 2022 - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) Please read both the summary and the decision for fieldwork. This specification builds on the knowledge, understanding and skills established at GCSE Geography A or GCSE Geography B Coastal Environments CPD – Erosional Landforms, Coastal Management and Fieldwork on the Holderness CoastTo get a sense of where the exam board comes from, the Assessment and Qualification Alliance (AQA) board was created in 2000 following a whole series of mergers of exam boards. Today it is one of the largest exam boards in the UK. In the past, parliament has debated whether GCSE courses ought to be graded as modular or linear subjects. The Eduqas GCSE Geography A develops an enquiry approach to the study of geographical information, issues and concepts. It is based on the principle that geographical education should enable learners to become critical and reflective thinkers by engaging them actively in the enquiry process. Content is organised around key questions and learners should develop the ability to pose geographical questions of their own. Fieldwork is an essential aspect of geographical education and of this qualification. It is placed at the heart of this specification and teachers should embed fieldwork within any programme of study that they create. Learners should consolidate and extend their understanding of geographical concepts learned in the classroom by engaging with enquiries conducted outside of the classroom and school grounds. Furthermore, they should be challenged to apply what they have learned through specific fieldwork in local contexts to the wider context of UK geography. improve their understanding of the ways in which values, attitudes and circumstances have an impact on the relationships between people, place and environment, and develop the knowledge and ability to engage, as citizens, with the questions and issues arising Seneca covers more than just Geography, with all exam boards, subjects, and 250+ revision courses. The most important part to know is that neuroscientists have proven that using Seneca makes you memorise topics 2x better than traditional revision guides. So whether you're a huge fan of Tropical Rainforests, River Landscapes or Water - Seneca can help you out with Geography revision for your GCSE exams. The focus of the specification is to develop an enthusiasm for and competence in geography by using contemporary real-world contexts, from a range of specified spatial scales, and through engagement with and practical application of geographical skills and techniques in the field. This course draws on both physical and human geography, explores people-environment interactions and encourages development of fieldwork at the local level to enable learners to pose enquiry questions.
