About this deal

Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. And I wasn't expecting anything of Sloppy Firsts or Second Helpings calibre, I was happy with what it was. There is an encounter with a male goose that had me belly laughing so hard I had to set down the book. She recognizes her awkwardness and while it does bother her sometimes, she embraces it most of the time.

I’ve been in plenty of “Gifted” and advanced classes, and they expect more out of us even in middle school.

Manda and Sara are kind of similar to who they will be in Sloppy Firsts, but Jessica’s friendship with Hope and some of the cross-country team girls deepens in this book. In her initial statement on April 24, 2006, Viswanathan had stated that she and the publisher would be revising her novel for future printings "to eliminate any inappropriate similarities.

Plus, she's kind of stuck in the middle, as smarties and skaters unite to collect signatures on a petition to bring back the school's annual dance. It's an amazing, gentle unfolding of a relationship that will define the Jessica that we know from the original books - and now we know why. Anyway, now we can see Jessica tackle junior high, and McCafferty brings Jessica's trademark wit, observational skills and honesty to middle school. The great thing about middle grade novels is the amount of social awkwardness that is piled into the pages. I feel so lucky to have a peek into her middle school years in Megan McCafferty's sparkly new series.

I’m not sure I’d necessarily continue on with the series, not because I’m too old for them, but because I’m not sure how much more I want the core Sloppy Firsts story to be reframed by what’s in these books. This book just reminded me of my roots in reading, and really had me thinking about the way I've been choosing books.

I love that while she falls into the trap a bit about trying to become popular she ends up staying true to herself. These very elitist comments about 'how all books for teens are crap; so isn't this just crap stealing from crap'. In 2002, World of Books Group was founded on an ethos to do good, protect the planet and support charities by enabling more goods to be reused. Those of us who are already well acquainted with Jessica will probably read this book waiting for certain people to show up, and by certain people I mean Marcus, but there is so much more to this book. Also like that her best friend Brittney has one of those overnight transitions where she becomes beautiful and popular but for the most part, she really doesn’t let that change her too much (she does end up with a boyfriend at the very end and her relationship with Jessica clearly changes but none of that is depicted as bad. In Sloppy Firsts, the original Jessica Darling book, Jessica is seriously depressed, but also completely self-aware and precocious. I loved the setting because Jessica Darling’s character timeline is on par with my personal experience. She's funny, winning, and completely relatable, and it's impossible not to root for her through all her misadventures.
