About this deal

Hi David, I’m halfway through and loving this book. There have been many touching moments for me throughout the story – you have conveyed the elusive nature of Dharma realisation very well. I blush to admit that I know only a little bit about Buddhism – probably only enough to be dangerous. But as our little Bodhicatva is taken into the household of the Dalai Lama (“she must have a very close karmic connection to him”) and starts to learn, so do I by reading. She must not only agree with the principles of her new religion but also live them – no more giving into her instincts and chasing mice. The Dalai Lama understands her moment of weakness but encourages her not to give up on herself as the buddhas haven’t given up on her. The Conscious Cat Product Guide features all of the best products for cats and cat lovers. The Dalai Lama’s Cat series – David Michie

I have thoroughly enjoyed each book. I always slow down when I get to the last chapter so I can make the book last as long as possible. Like Connie, I also hope there will be more adventures and learning experiences for HHC, and for your readers.I am a person with chronic pain and your Dalai Lama’s cat series has been such a comfort to me. The messages of Buddhism included in the novels are inspiring and full of hope. Please write more of this series! They are such a breath of fresh air in a world filled with anger, hatred and violence. We need to keep hearing about impermanence and what brings true happiness. I’m reading and enjoying The Magician of Llasa right now. You are so talented and have so much wisdom to share. Thank you. Hi David ~ I sure hope HHC’s adventures continue in further books. I love the series, and I think it was a brilliant idea of yours! Hugs. As she grows into a beautiful cat, HHC has her own share of adventures, meets a tabby cat admirer from ‘downtown McLeodGanj’, attends teaching sessions by monks and tells us all about her learnings. HHC takes us with her as she moves between the Dalai Lama’s residence in Dharamshala, the Namgyal Monastery and Cafe Franc (a neighbourhood cafe). Her keen observations and reported conversations in these places bring us little gems of Buddhist wisdom. Passages from the book that stays with me…

She learns that it is not so much the circumstances of our lives as how we view them. Also that it is not the purpose of Buddhism to convert people but to give them tools so they can create greater happiness. Little Snow Lion notices that sometimes the people at a local cafe (that is honored so serve her delicious tidbits) don’t take the time to appreciate the moment and practice an important Buddhist principle –“mindfulness means paying attention to present moments deliberately and non-judgmentally.” Cats enjoying their dining have already got that covered. By the way, is your cat quite as delightful as me? Does she give you such precious opportunities to practice generosity and patience? I think I deserve to be told! Most interesting, my little Snow Lion,” the Dalai Lama remarked after a while, as he closed his book and came over to stroke me. I am also most grateful to you for helping bring the book to wider attention. Trying to launch a little book like this into such a noisy environment is a challenge – and I am truly thankful to you – and also Layla – for your warm hearted support! Not so much fly-on-the-wall as cat-on-the-sill, this is the warmhearted tale of a small kitten rescued from the slums of New Delhi who finds herself in a beautiful sanctuary with sweeping views of the snow-capped Himalayas. In her exotic new home, the Dalai Lama’s cat encounters Hollywood stars, Buddhist masters, Ivy-league professors, famous philanthropists, and a host of other people who come visiting His Holiness. Each encounter offers a fresh insight into finding happiness and meaning in the midst of a life of busy-ness and challenge. Drawing us into her world with her adorable but all-too-flawed personality, the Dalai Lama’s cat discovers how instead of trying to change the world, changing the way we experience the world is the key to true contentment.Thank you so much for your wonderful message, Samantha! I am so happy that HHC’s messages are resonating with you! Warm wishes, David I so agree! I am the same. I work hard and want to be taken away into a fantasy life in my spare time. But I’m also very hopeful to grow spiritually, so your books have been a favourite of mine. One question I’ve always wanted to ask you is did the Dalai Lama and the Queen (Queens Corgi) have to, or want to comment on these books? I would love to give a copy to my close Italian friend, and I wonder if your books have been translated into Italian? Thank you so much Brinda, for your very generous words! I am so glad your relationship with your own feline friend is a deeper one too! Warm wishes, David That Buddhism is all about compassion is what HHC gathers from the Dalai Lama. She describes the presence of the great man..

The Dalai Lama’s Cat — A Book Review - Medium The Dalai Lama’s Cat — A Book Review - Medium

Among these people were journalists, accountants and other professionals. The nature of their various jobs had the same net effect: having to deal with enormous volumes of non-fiction as part of their working life meant that when it came to the weekend, or going on holiday, the last thing they wanted to do was read yet more non-fiction. Having already a profound and fulfilling connection with my own feline friend, I have observed a further deepening in our shared moments while reading this book. Thank you! An injured kitten is rescued from the streets of Delhi by the Dalai Lama himself. She is a Himalayan species with blue eyes and a furry coat. The adorable kitten goes on to become the blue-eyed (literally) girl of the Dalai Lama’s household at Dharamshala. His Holiness’s Cat or HHC as she is first called, later gets many other names- Bodhicatva, Snow Lion, Rinpoche, The-most-beautiful-creature-on-earth and many more. I adore your style of writing and now you are my favourite author by far. Looking forward to the next two! All 3 books of The Dalai Lama’s Cat series are probably the best books I have ever read. They are happy and calming books; and very inspiring for self improvement. It also made my relation with my cat more special! I sure do hope these are just 3 of a long series to follow!Featuring a delightful cast of characters, timeless Buddhist wisdom, and His Holiness’s compassion pervading every chapter, The Dalai Lama’s Cat is simply enchanting. If you’re interested in learning more about mindfulness and other Buddhist principles, this is an easily accessible way to do so. If you believe that cats have many lessons to teach us, reading this enchanting book will be a transformational experience for you. If I had to summarize The Dalai Lama’s Cat in just a few words, they would be “Buddhism 101, brought to you by an adorable cat.” But these few words wouldn’t do this charming book justice. While this warm-hearted story of a small kitten rescued from the slums of New Delhi through fortuitous circumstances may be a little contrived, it’s also utterly delightful. After publishing Buddhism for Busy People in 2004 and subsequent non-fiction books, I sometimes found myself talking to people who were voracious readers, and had a keen interest in the subjects I wrote about. They hadn’t read my books – and they didn’t plan to. The reason wasn’t personal, and was quite simple: they didn’t read non-fiction. They never went near the Self Help shelves of a bookstore. And they weren’t about to start now. As a cat lover, one often wonders what goes on behind the calm-on-the-surface faces of these felines. If one were to go by David Michie’s cat creation, quite a lot. HHC is as much at a loss as we humans in dealing with everyday life and problems. Living with the Dalai Lama and other monks, HHC gives us a first-hand account of how to practise mindfulness, the true cause of happiness and that Dharma isn’t about ‘mouthing high-sounding principles’. The cat goes all out to evolve into a ‘true bodhicatva’!
