About this deal

For the frosting, to fit the lemon theme a bit more, I did a lemon buttercream frosting. I love a light lemon buttercream, and when you make a super whipped buttercream frosting it is glorious. From mugs and plates to tea towels and tins, there really is something for everyone to help celebrate the coronation. Expect bold colours, intricate designs and statement text that all come together to make for truly stunning commemorative pieces.

Naturally, the first thing that comes to mind with this type of event like this is an art and craft activity! Literacy is a topic that lends itself quite nicely to various themes. See below for some of our suggestions on how to incorporate the coronation into literacy:As for the Coronation ceremony itself, this event is rooted in a longstanding tradition. On Saturday, 6 May 2023, King Charles will be crowned alongside the Queen Consort. Plus, on the following day, a special Coronation Concert will be broadcast on the BBC, live from Windsor Castle. What do you need for the big day?

The little cases are so cute, and they are a self contained portion of cake that you can simply place onto a large flat baking tray, portion the cake mix into the cases, and bake. Like my coronation cake though, you can use whipped cream if you prefer, but I wanted to make a slightly different recipe this time. You can of course make the frosting whatever flavour you prefer – vanilla, orange, almond, chocolate, etc.Available online and in stores from today (17 April), Tesco’s new coronation range aims to help its shoppers plan a ‘celebration fit for royalty’. Benji Lewis, an interior designer, says on decoration: "Whilst red, white and blue are clearly patriotic and you won’t be letting the side down by using these on your tabletop, the Coronation is clearly a massively rare and regal moment so bear that in mind when you consider things." We all know and love cupcakes, and loaf cakes, but why not combine the both?! There is something special that I adore about mini loaf cakes, and I just want to keep on baking them over and over. Thinking beyond the obvious of teaching children about King Charles’ life and focusing on the royal family and their history, our activity ideas are designed to inject creativity and fun into learning about such an occasion in British history. Ways to incorporate the coronation into your lessons 1. Getting crafty You can obviously use a buttercream instead if you want – but I would avoid an icing like on the school cake as that may cause the fruit to run off slightly. A standard buttercream would be 175g unsalted butter mixed with 350g icing sugar.

The coronation oath is said by the new King and includes them swearing to govern faithfully with Justice and Mercy. 3. Get active! Eggs – I used medium eggs, but if you have other sizes, weigh them in their shells and then match the other ingredients – get to as close to 400g as possible.Whether you’re planning a large street party or just a lowkey shindig with friends, there are a few things that you need to make the event extra special. For example, what to wear to a street party is something you should be looking at.

With that in mind, perhaps choosing a different scheme altogether may be preferred. For example, floral patterns are quite British - and will look gentle and elegant. If you wanted a chocolate based cake, use my chocolate school cake as a base sponge. Or you can even jazz it up slightly and use my gin & tonic traybake– or even my chocolate orange traybake cake. You could use these activities to get children to understand how the King might be feeling in light of the upcoming coronation when writing letters. This will enable children to explore PSED as they engage in literacy. It’s the King’s coronation in a few weeks time, so it seems appropriate to start planning the celebrations. Street party? Watching it on TV? Having a lovely bank holiday? Well a few bakes will always be a popular idea.Step 2 For the cake, using a freestanding mixer, or a handheld electric whisk and a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 5min. Gradually beat in the eggs. If the mixture looks as if it might curdle, beat in 1tbsp of the flour. Beat in the vanilla bean paste. For the cake I decided to stay super basic, and go for a popular sponge base. My school cake sponge is always very popular as it’s a basic sponge, and I add vanilla to it. This is of course optional, you can flavour it any way – but I went vanilla. Why not put your little ones to the test with a relay race – but not any old relay race… In honour of the coronation, why not challenge your little ones to race as fast as they can whilst balancing paper crowns or plastic crowns on their heads! This will not only inject a more exciting element to a great team activity but it will support balance and coordination. Whilst school and nursery classes are not dictated by awareness days in the annual calendar, they can certainly be utilised to make learning a little bit different and raise children’s awareness of what is happening in the world around them. One such example occurring in May 2023 is the King’s coronation! In this blog, we are going to share some ideas of how you can incorporate coronation themed activities into your typical day at school or nursery to support children’s learning and development. The King's Coronation is just around the corner (it's on Saturday 6 May FYI) and we can't wait for all the events that are planned over the course of the Bank Holiday weekend.
