Glenfarclas, a family owened distillery and one of the most well-respected distillery's left in Scotland, have released this 50 year old whisky aged in Spanish oak sherry casks. The nose suggests this is a huge, effusive whisky through aromas of flamed orange disc, peel oils, baking spices, triple sec, mango, dark chocolate, passion fruit, and walnut shells. Fire and Cane is Batch 4 of the ongoing experimental series of Glenfiddich releases that sees a lightly peated malt (Glenfiddich started doing a small amount of peated barley in 2003) from this famous Speyside distillery being finished in sweet Ex-Rum casks from Latin America after initial maturation in Ex-Bourbon casks. This expression is considered a premium release, and is known for its complex and rich flavor profile, with a balance of classic Speyside fruitiness and a significant Sherry influence. It was on the 8th June in 1865 John Grant a farmer took over the tenency of Rechlerich Farm and as part of the transaction purchased Glenfarclas Distillery.
