About this deal

Gurder presides over the Abbott's funeral, and it is revealed that he was chosen by the old Abbott to replace him. Gurder, however, does not want the job. Masklin comes up with a plan to save the nomes; they will leave the way they arrived, by stealing a lorry. This was not what I expected it to be, and that's the fault of the German translation who uses "Nomen" for the nomes - which means noun. The name of the trilogy is Nomenklature which is a grammatical term. Don't know how they work with it, as I waited all these years to read the original version. Torrit (also known as "Old Torrit"): no longer seen in Diggers, but Masklin mentions his death early in Diggers.

This book is technically written for children, but honestly, I have trouble believing that a lot of 5th-8th graders will get the satire in here. I would say that this is *appropriate* for children, but that it is a great book for readers of all ages. If you're looking for a laugh and enjoy British humor, then this is laugh-out-loud funny and I highly recommend it. Women have no rights, aren't even allowed to learn to read, as this could overheat their brains. In contrast, the Floridians (nomes of Florida, also the name of some fruit juice, apparently) are lead by a female. Contrast in male-female domination and rights. There are plenty of good things to say about the book. It has a moderate supply of Terry Pratchett's trademark wit for starters. The nomes (gnomes if you like) are an interesting mix of clever and stupid, and the addition of a lost history and their origin in the stars gives a refreshing sci-fi twist to a fantasy-in-the-real-world story. I wonder why that appeals to me... Edward Douglas, Edward Douglas (10 September 2008). "Exclusive: Danny Boyle Getting Animated?". ComingSoon.net . Retrieved 23 July 2011.Masklin the Nome and his companions flee their unsustainable motorway-verge home and discover an alien race of tiny Humans known as Nomes living in a department store scheduled for demolition. Things are complicated by the store Nomes' religion, which states 'The Store' consists of the entire universe, and denies the existence of the 'outside'.

Yes. I love the characters. They don't have to be human to feel empathy with them. The frustration with other beings of the same race that comes through the nomes thoughts and comments is clearly not species constrained in Pratchett's world. Very well read by Stephen Briggs as well. Difficult that with a book that people either love or loathe and have probably read themselves more than once I was a confused at the beginning on what was happening until they finally arrive at the Store, the story got me there with the concept of little people living in it and the kind of lives and culture you can develop with that sort of surroundings. There was a stop-motion animation series that I'd watched as a kid, seeing 4inch nomes inhabit a department store is pretty memorable! Predominantly written as a children's book in the late eighties, this fun adventure can be enjoyed by all ages. All of that thing how do you call it? Nature, that doesn´t fell natural at all. A satyr of modern culture used to easy life and ignorance of what nature is. When you thing that the plot is going one way, Pratchett surprises you with a plot twist and then again, the final crescendo was so amazing! and after that the other thing that happens wow! Bargains Galore: a benevolent spirit that the nomes believed in and sometimes prayed to. In one scene, a cleaner was thought to be her. Even so, it's an inventive story with various challenges facing our nomes, not least the understanding of the human world. When the outside nomes meet the store nomes and try to convince them there really is an outside a subtle satire on world views plays out whilst other more concrete problems are overcome.
