About this deal

M.G. Edwards is a writer of books and stories in the mystery, thriller and science fiction-fantasy genres. He also writes travel adventures and children's books. The story is done in a scrapbook style. I love the fresh and unique look this gives the story. The font is easily read, highlighting key words throughout the story. This not only adds visual interest, but focuses on key points in the story that as a parent I can use as discussion topics later. At the beginning of this story, Ellie the elephant is saddened as the zoo is closing and she is unaware of how she can help. She sees other animals assisting; however, Ellie feels as though she has no special skills. In the end, Ellie accidentally realizes her unexpected skill and helps to save the zoo. This children's book presents the story of an individual who felt as though she had no power but found her voice and her identity through painting. This story is very powerful and speaks to the importance of identity. "Ellie" could prove to be a beneficial supplemental text to encourage students to think about their own skills and abilities and how they are beneficial, as individuals, to the communities they are members of. In preceding books, including “Sweet Land of Liberty,”“Land of the Pilgrims’ Pride,”“Yankee Doodle Dandy,”“From Sea to Shining Sea,”“Christmas in America,” and “Hail to the Chief,” Ellis learns about the pivotal moments that have shaped our nation. Now, in Remember the Ladies, this adorable pachyderm explores the fascinating lives of our first ladies.

They wondered if there was something that would keep the zoo open. What could each one do to "spruce it up a bit?" My son is starting pre-K in the fall and is worried about making friends. I love how this book started us talking about ways he can be a friend to someone. We also talked about the importance of choosing the right friends. This is a delightful story. It has a happy ending. The art is gracefully done and peaceful to look upon. "Ellie" reminds us that each one of us has something special to give to the world. Sometimes, it takes a bit of seeking to find that talent, that ability, that specialty. The use of "Nellie" resulted in correct timing for 42 out of 130 cases, as compared with 15 for no music and just 12 for "That's the Way (I Like It)". However, the depth of compression was found to be inadequate in most of those cases, and the use of "Nellie" was found to increase this inadequacy slightly, as compared with the use of no music (56% too shallow with "Nellie" and 47% without). All seven books in this Ellis the Elephant series are autographed by Ambassador Callista L. Gingrich. The lesson is further reinforced by using stuffed animals as the characters. Children have a natural love for that type of toy, so in some sense it improves their ability to empathize with the lost child. This is a great book for children, it is easy to read, involves characters and situations they understand and provides a valuable lesson for dealing with others.
