About this deal

Sold out year on year, Haçienda Classical sees Tim Crooks lead the collective of artists and musicians on stage in performing well known favourites and new versions of club classics all mixed continuously into one non-stop set. The Hacienda Classics are the ultimate party band, playing dance classics from the 70s, 80s and 90s right up to all your favourite present day hits. By October 1987 he’d taught himself to DJ and had a Wednesday night residency at the Hacienda. His influence on music since – especially in France – is incalculable. On Saturday, Manchester rewound 20 years and more as the Happy Mondays headlined a special Hacienda revival night at the Albert Hall.

The gig will mark Haçienda Classical’s seventh Castlefield live event in the past eight years, where they will be joined by special guests Roger Sanchez, Todd Terry and Peter Hook. Haçienda Classical in the Castlefield Bowl is the highlight of my year and I’m thrilled to be performing for a seventh year to the best audience in the world,” conductor Tim Crooks said. “It’s always an unforgettable experience.” Generations of indie-ravers have found inspiration from the pioneers and maintained the creative spirit of those Hacienda moments when electronic dance music fed off and into guitar music. I’m talking about the emergence in the late 1990s of DJs like Erol Alkan and, more recently, the cross-fertilisation seen in the work of the magnificent Hot Chip. It really has got people talking about the clubbing institution again, especially the iconic songs it played over the years. Danny Howells, Dave Seaman and Darren Emerson are staples of British dance music. Collectively as 3D, they’ve just completed a tour of North America, released their first EP on Dave’s Selador Recordings imprint and are about to embark on an extensive tour across South America.A hip hop-influenced crew, including Martin Price from the Eastern Bloc record shop, and two of his customers (and Hacienda regulars) – Gerald Simpson and Graham Massey – began making music as the Hit Squad. Excellent performance. The band were brilliant, not only in their performance but also in the way that they conducted themselves prior to the event during set up.” Haçienda Classical is joined next July by US house pioneers Roger Sanchez and Todd Terry who alongside Peter Hook who comprise the line up of DJ’s for the event. The NCP Manchester Central next to Bridgewater Hall car park is also nearby, with 643 spaces. For sat navs the postcode is M15 4PS.

House music was still underground – there were some commercial hits, but outside of specialist shows the best music was still only being heard in a few clubs. 808 State weren’t eyeing the charts, they had a more specific aim; to get the record played at the club. It was the be-all and end-all. According to Graham Massey, ”If you didn’t get it on at the Hacienda, it was a disaster”. We have compiled a list of our top 10 songs from the Hacienda days, but obviously there are many more, and that is where you come in. This is the act's lowest available price for a local performance by their smallest line-up. It does not include any travel costs. It's always a special kind of night when Hacienda Classical is in town. Now in its sixth year performing at Castlefield Bowl's Sounds of the City series, there's also the rather special 40th anniversary of Manchester's iconic superclub to celebrate as well.
