About this deal

There’s no companion app, the NAD relying on a mix of Airplay 2, Chromecast, Bluetooth and Spotify/Tidal Connect for its music. It also has DLNA to play files on your home network (and other sources) using apps like BubbleUPnP. And the CS1 is Roon Ready, acting as an endpoint for the excellent (albeit expensive and complex) Roon music software. Those already in possession of an external DAC – either fully outboard or located inside an integrated amplifier, home theatre receiver or a pair of powered loudspeakers – can make use of the CS1’s coaxial and TOSLINK outputs where PCM up to 24bit/192kHz is supported.

YOU AGREE NOT TO MODIFY, ADAPT, TRANSLATE, REVERSE ENGINEER, DECOMPILE, OR DISASSEMBLE THE PROGRAM OR ONLINE DOCUMENTATION, IN WHOLE OR IN PART, EXCEPT AS EXPRESSLY PROVIDED FOR IN THIS AGREEMENT OR UPON NAD’S WRITTEN REQUEST. IN ADDITION YOU AGREE NOT TO TRANSFER OR DISCLOSE THE PROGRAM, ONLINE DOCUMENTATION OR ANY PROGRAM YOU DEVELOP FROM THEM IN WHOLE OR IN PART, TO ANY THIRD PARTY EXCEPT UPON NAD’S PRIOR WRITTEN APPROVAL. FINALLY YOU AGREE NOT TO USE THE PROGRAM IN WHOLE OR IN PART FOR ANY PURPOSE OTHER THAN AS OUTLINED IN THE ONLINE DOCUMENTATION. The high-end audio marketplace is filled with integrated amplifiers that are capable of streaming high-resolution audio over a Wi-Fi network from compatible services like Tidal or Qobuz. But many of those components are pricey, and they also require use of a custom, brand-specific app to facilitate streaming, with some apps doing that job much better than others. For such folks, the lower-cost CS1 will come across as a more approachable option for adding streaming and high-res audio capability to an existing system. It’s true that you won’t get to use the BluOS control app used in the company’s pricier streaming-capable products, but not everyone will need the high level of features that app provides (multiroom streaming to multiple components, for instance). With the CS1, you can just fire up Tidal on your phone, tap play, and you’re off and running in high-res. Built-in Bluetooth compatibility makes it easy to connect the CS1 to your smart devices, allowing you to stream your music wirelessly. Employing audiophile-grade components, the NAD CS1 can play high-resolution audio up to 24-bit/192kHz. It features Bluetooth, Ethernet, dual-band Wi-Fi and supports the most popular streaming and casting protocols, including Apple AirPlay 2, GoogleCast, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect and Roon. However, the real story here should not sail us by: the absence of an accompanying smartphone app. The CS1’s network streaming support is entirely driven by third-party streaming solutions: Apple AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Roon and GoogleCast (which will likely handle the CS1’s network onboarding and configuration).
