About this deal

Six children are in hospital in Oxford after a BMW collided with the people carrier in which they were travelling. Homes and businesses in OX1, OX2, OX3, OX4, OX9, OX14, OX33, OX44 and HP18 – including Abingdon and some surrounding towns and villages – have been affected with no water supply or low pressure and some schools have been forced to close.

These adverts enable local businesses to get in front of their target audience – the local community. The Oxford Manual of Major Incident Management brings together and integrates the key facts for all those involved in major incident planning and response.

Authoritative, comprehensive, and concise, this quick-reference guide will be of use to both established experts and to novices in the field. The multi-agency operation continues at Didcot A Power Station following the partial collapse of a building on Tuesday (23/2). The extent of this incident, the nature of the collapse and the location where the missing people were working means that it is highly unlikely the three missing people are still alive. All parties continue to closely monitor the safety and structure of the remaining building on the site. Water supplies have been affected in South Oxfordshire and the Vale following a burst water pipe at Heyford Hill Roundabout on the Oxford Ring Road.

The Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Nathan Travis, Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Services said: “We continue to work with Thames Valley Police to keep families informed of our progress on the site. We are grateful to members of the public for avoiding attending our Emergency Department for anything other than serious or life-threatening emergencies. Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust can confirm that it is responding to a major incident declared today at Didcot Power Station. The Health and Safety Executive has been informed and will conduct an investigation, which will be supported by Thames Valley Police.South Oxfordshire District Council Environmental Health has confirmed there are no air quality issues associated with the dust cloud that formed yesterday.

Following the partial building collapse of Didcot A Power Station yesterday (23/2), we can now confirm that the families of the three missing people have visited the site, supported by Family Liaison Officers from Thames Valley Police. Five young men from Oxford were arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. The essential aim is to ensure that in the event of a major incident (flood, fire, etc) the University can get back to normal as quickly and effectively as possible, and to ensure that there are plans in place to meet specific disturbances to the University’s operations. We are currently using sniffer dogs, listening devices, drones and we are looking at the possibility of using remote controlled probes to access dangerous parts of the site. For reasonably foreseeable events that would require an emergency response from the University there is a requirement for departmental plans to be drawn up ready for implementation. The safety of emergency service personnel has to remain our priority, while recognising how hard this must be for families waiting for news of loved ones overnight.

We are enormously grateful to the Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service for their time, the University’s Risk and Resilience Team for their guidance and the operational team at Univ for how determined they were to engage fully with this exercise not just to ensure that everything went smoothly on the night, but to ensure that if we ever had to do this for real, we would do the very best we could for our College. Thames Valley Police Assistant Chief Constable Scott Chilton said: “We are continuing to work with the Health and Safety Executive and all the emergency services to understand the cause of this incident. Three of them were also arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, driving a vehicle while unfit through drugs, and driving a vehicle dangerously. Dust from the collapse covered a considerable area but I would like to reassure the public there were no hazardous materials within the building, we would advise local residents to remain inside, keeping doors and windows closed. The information base required to plan for and manage this response has now been collected together into a single user friendly volume, clearly describing the hazards and their management at all stages. As part of the staged incident there were a number of fire appliances located along the High Street outside the College and hoses run from hydrants, with fire service personnel in breathing apparatus travelling back and forth between the College and the appliances. Police said on Thursday that the children, whose ages have not been confirmed, remained in hospital. NHS organisations are working together to support the response to the major incident at Didcot Power Station. Our priority remains to recover those missing but the site remains extremely unstable – both the collapsed structure and the remaining building which has already been primed and cut for demolition. It is always good practice to test our assumptions, until you put theory into practice you cannot be assured that your plan will work.
