Clever, atmospheric, and beautifully creepy, “Lovesickness” highlights Ito’s conceptual genius, his ability to squeeze seemingly endless permutations of horror from a single concept. If you're a Junji Ito fan, I highly recommend grabbing a copy of Lovesickness as soon as you can, because you're not going to want to miss this one!His titles include Tomie and Uzumaki, which have been adapted into live-action films; Gyo, which was adapted into an animated film; and his short story collections Fragments of Horror, Shiver and Frankenstein, all of which are available from VIZ Media. Though he often gestures at more conventional EC Comics narratives with last page shock reveals, his most affecting creations are built on imagistic repetition, in which the horror is not that you’ve hit a dead end, but that you never reach any end at all. This story was unsettling, disturbing, and altogether really enjoyable, with an ending I didn't quite see coming. hack told compelling stories set against the backdrop of MMORPG players being trapped in a game—or in some cases, being made comatose. The best horror bypasses your critical and/or intellectual faculties, pushing psychological buttons, some you may not even know you have.

VIZ published Black Paradox in English on October 25, 2022, omitting "The Licking Woman" as it was previously published in Venus in the Blind Spot.
