About this deal

Everyone is bombarded with these questions and they try to answer thoughtfully, but this guy creates mayhem with his answers. Ito's stories always center on a strange compulsion that takes over one person, and then a whole lot of people at once: be it an obsession with spiral shapes ("Uzumaki"), or an obsession with the cracks in the side of a mountain ("The Enigma of Amigara Fault") or, in this latest collection "Lovesickness," an obsession with following a stranger's cryptic love advice to the most horrific and self-destructive outcomes possible. It's no surprise then that Ito's Lovesickness manga (now available in English by Viz Media) follows a similar pattern. Nevertheless, upon graduation he trained as a dental technician, and until the early 1990s he juggled his dental career with his increasingly successful hobby — even after being selected as the winner of the prestigious Umezu prize for horror manga.

Harboring his own secret from time spent in this town, Ryusuke attempts to capture the beautiful boy and close the case, but… Starting with the strikingly bloody “Lovesickness,” this volume collects ten stories showcasing horror master Junji Ito in peak form, including “The Strange Hikizuri Siblings” and “The Rib Woman. This collection really only has four stories in it since two of the stories are extended ones that I assume were originally published in different volumes over many years. Except a beautiful - but cursed - boy walks the streets and soon the town is dealing with a spate of teen suicides brought about by… Lovesickness! Clever, atmospheric, and beautifully creepy, “Lovesickness” highlights Ito’s conceptual genius, his ability to squeeze seemingly endless permutations of horror from a single concept. If you're a Junji Ito fan, I highly recommend grabbing a copy of Lovesickness as soon as you can, because you're not going to want to miss this one!His titles include Tomie and Uzumaki, which have been adapted into live-action films; Gyo, which was adapted into an animated film; and his short story collections Fragments of Horror, Shiver and Frankenstein, all of which are available from VIZ Media. Though he often gestures at more conventional EC Comics narratives with last page shock reveals, his most affecting creations are built on imagistic repetition, in which the horror is not that you’ve hit a dead end, but that you never reach any end at all. This story was unsettling, disturbing, and altogether really enjoyable, with an ending I didn't quite see coming. hack told compelling stories set against the backdrop of MMORPG players being trapped in a game—or in some cases, being made comatose. The best horror bypasses your critical and/or intellectual faculties, pushing psychological buttons, some you may not even know you have.

VIZ published Black Paradox in English on October 25, 2022, omitting "The Licking Woman" as it was previously published in Venus in the Blind Spot. The art has so much depth and he is able to transition to just bonkers intense horrifying scenes and concepts after filling you with dread (see Alexander's excellent review for examples of the art). The Strange Hikizuri Siblings” is a two-story set which still doesn’t really have enough time to develop its tale of an unpleasant gothy murderous group of cohabitating siblings. The Mansion of Phantom Pain” and “The Rib Woman” barely establish their supernatural conceits before they’re over; the spiral from normality to despair happens so fast you barely have time to feel vertiginous. Ito’s influences include classic horror manga artists Kazuo Umezu and Hideshi Hino, as well as authors Yasutaka Tsutsui and H.
