About this deal

I looked towards brands of trainers and trail shoes that I already had and thought about how these worked for me and were fit for purpose. inov-8 was a brand that had always impressed me and although on the more expensive side, I believed you pay for quality. Inov-8 was the first sports brand to incorporate Graphene into footwear. Graphene is a very hard wearing material and the soles of inov-8 trail running shoes and the new boots are highly durable and give great grip. The grip, in my experience, is better on drier trails than on wet terrain but it’s still a great asset.

multi-directional 4mm deep lugs on each shoe have been meticulously shaped and positioned to improve both propulsion at the front and braking at the rear. Forgiving forefoot width, good for wide feet or feet that grow after days and days of hiking: Alex/Sam

At first glance the boots shows a mixture of robustness, flexibility and adaptability to the foot completelly similar to the TRAILFLY ULTRA G 300 MAX as it seems they use the smae chasis. For the moment, what the brand ensures in relation to the use of graphene: greater durability, greater energy return and adaptability to the terrain without losing properties over kilometers and time. Stability: B ( Lightweight structure and design makes it feel less stable than typical hiking footwear that's heavily reinforced, espcially for wet conditions) From time to time carriers may deliver earlier or later, or on non working days however this is cannot be guaranteed nor should it be expected. I’ve also tried the Lone Peaks and again not sufficient grip in technical terrain and honestly although I’m not a through hiker (on the list) I’d be more inclined to use their Olympus that has more cushion and MegaGrip on the sole. Durability is usually the Altra’s downfall. I’ve had breathable boots before that let so much grit through the mesh that my feet were always filthy. The last breathable boots I had I remember half way along Sandwood beach having to stop and tip the sand of the boots, because they had got uncomfortable with so much sand in. This was not an issue at all with the Inov-8 RocFly G 390 boots while walking along the same beach this time. Inov-8 RocFly G 390 boots

Inov-8 has designed a hiking boot that includes both GRAPHENE-GRIP™ rubber sole for traction on trails and G-FLY™ Graphene foam – which is said to deliver “25% greater energy return”. A 10mm deep ADAPTER-FLEX™ groove allows the boot to adapt, react and mould to uneven terrain for a responsive, agile feel that is free of rigidity but full of cushioning. It is positioned to work in tandem with the foot’s midtarsal joint to increase flex and mobility. The 37-year-old scaled the highest mountains in Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell Pike) and Wales (Snowdon) – plus all the miles in between them – on a 500-mile adventure that took him just 16 days, 15 hours and 39 minutes. The ROCFLY G 390 aims to make that question a little easier with a shoe that aspires to take the best of both worlds, providing the stability and ankle support of a boot crossed with the agility and ground feel of a trail runner. Hillwalkers, day hikers and thru-hikers will all love this hybrid boot/trail runner combination. They are lightweight, hardwearing, any terrain walking boots that use Inov-8’s durable Graphene-enhanced G-GRIP. Inov-8 says:There is so much to love about the inov-8 ROCFLY™ G 390 and I have enjoyed wearing them for a huge variety of hikes, on a multitude of surfaces and over both long and short distances. So, If cushioning and comfort are high on your list of priorities, then the ROCFLY™ should be high on your list of potential hiking shoes. By infusing it into their G-FLY™ foam, inov-8 is promising a revolutionary underfoot experience that allows hikers to feel fresher for longer. The new inov-8 ROCFLY™ G 390 hiking boots also have ADAPTER-FLEX™ grooves in the sole, which allows the boot and foot inside to react to the terrain “with the type of agility usually reserved for trail running shoes”. Although lined with a Gore-Tex membrane, the boots do let in some water when it is raining. I think this is due to the mid-height ankle cuff. The ingress is not too bad but if you will be walking in heavy rain and where vegetation is soaked, you might want to add gaiters. Cumbria-based inov-8 have been doing remarkable things with a ‘wonder-material’ called graphene for the past two years. But with this new boot, they’ve taken the material – and their smart usage of it – to a whole new level.
