About this deal

Deep red in colour, this feels a little thinner in texture than some others on our list, but the wine itself really comes through. Dow's owns the Quinta do Bomfim and Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira vineyards and, using these, even on undeclared years produces some truly superb Single Quinta port wines. This 2011 Vintage Port Wine from Dow's is "very inky in hue, this is very tight indeed, with classic Dow dryness/austerity – firm tannins and a yet to be mined concentrated seam of minerals, black currant, berry and cherry. Tawny port for example has a nutty quality due to a process of ageing in wooden barrels, while white port, made from white grapes, is often mixed in cocktails.

This needs drinking within two to three days of opening, so it’s perhaps best for a party of big family gathering. The result of that long ageing process is a beautiful deep, rich rusty brown liquid that bursts with fig, toasted nut and quince aromas. An opaque blue/purple colour (typical of this vintage's top offerings) is followed by a strikingly provocative aromatic display (flowers, licorice, blackberries, and cassis). The 1966 is a top success for that vintage; in fact, it would be hard to find a better port from that year.During the ageing process the wines are tasted regularly and only deemed ready for blending when they taste right, which is why there is no specific age given to the port. Made with a blend of wines that have spent four years in oak, it’s then bottled unfiltered, and cellared for a further three years to let it improve. We can't offer refunds or exchanges on perishable goods such as flowers and food, unless faulty or not as described. Create a unique gift package with our luxury Dark Mocha Leather Effect presentation box with silk liners.

Bottles in this Auction are never classed as brand new and Boxes/Bottles/Packaging etc may have marks or creases due to their age. The style, which has some similarities to a tawny, is aged in wood for a minimum of seven years before being bottled. If you want to take your time, bed down deep into an arm chair, and snuggle up away from the cold, then the Ramos Pinto RP20 20 year old tawny port is truly worth taking your time over. Once you have bid you are stating you understand and that the checks stated above have been carried out and you are happy with the lot's condition.

This rare style of port is only made by a small number of producers and is characterised by its lack of filtration, hence the name.

It is more compact, a bit more standoffish compared to some of the other single quinta 2018s that I tasted. From one end of the flavour spectrum to the other, Pedro Ximenez sherries are made with the grape variety of the same name which are picked overly ripe, or sun-dried for intensity of flavour.Dow’s Port is one of the most famous names in the Port trade and today is owned and managed by the fifth generation of the Symington family. We also offer a wine bottle engraving service, making an ideal Christmas present that will be treasured forever. Dow's displays a dark ruby/purple colour, attractive liquorice, chocolate, and roasted coffee aromas, medium to full body, sweet tannin, and a moderately tannic finish. A fine tipple to round off your Christmas celebrations splendidly, especially if served with ripe Stilton. We followed the serving recommendations from each brand, from keeping the liquid at room temperature, chilling it, or decanting it before pouring.
