About this deal

The biopic, which follows the life of self-made millionaire and former minibus salesman Dave Fishwick as he goes about trying to set up the first new bank in more than 150 years, got its first showing at the town’s Reel Cinema.

Bank of Dave: How I Took on the Banks by Dave Fishwick

Wholesome, fun, heart-warming, ridiculous in parts, relatable in others, the film, which was shot in and around Burnley and Colne, as well as in Dave’s actual house in Sabden, was everything and more you could expect from a true-ish story, and has firmly put Burnley on the map. The Financial Services Authority (FSA) wouldn't even agree to a meeting unless Dave put millions of pounds in a protected account with them. Now one man, fed up with never-ending tales of greed and corruption, sets out to prove that there is a different way of doing things - by opening his own bank to help inject much-needed life into local businesses. In February 2013, a follow-up Scottish BAFTA winning episode named Bank of Dave: Fighting the Fat Cats was shown.Since the first series of the Channel 4 series aired in 2012, Fishwick has continued to lobby Parliament to reform the UK's banking system, which has received support from former Shadow Business Secretary Chuka Umunna MP, who supported the idea of a bank looking to "serve and grow the local economy rather than just for profit and serving the shareholders". In the film, the band flies in to perform a number of their songs at a fundraising concert, but this is actually a complete fabrication – based on the fact that Fishwick himself is a massive fan of the band. Self-made millionaire and founder of Bank Of Dave, Dave Fishwick, is often booked for guest speaking at business events, where he often shares his life story, provides inspiration, motivation and very entertaining. They also "make decisions based on experience and good, old fashioned common sense, making a difference to small businesses and real people, and has also helped a large number of different charities and good causes along the way.

While the legendary real-life band did fly all the way from the US to Burnley to make their excellent cameo in Bank of Dave, their part in Dave Fishwick’s real-life story is complete fiction, made up because he’s such a huge fan of the band. How To Get Rich Quick will chart Fishwick’s attempts to teach people the money-making skills which helped him become a self-made millionaire. With the help of London lawyer, Hugh, Dave goes up against the financial might of the London banking elite, in an attempt to establish the first new British bank in over 100 years.Ron Christie Former Advisor to President George W Bush and Justine Greening Former Economic Secretary to the Treasury agree with Dave. The real-life Dave is a fan of Def Leppard, so it was producer Piers Tempest's idea to add them into the story.
