His wife Maria Canevari dedicated herself - as was customary at the time - to making liqueurs at home. Canevari's liqueur was of such high quality that it gained the attention of connoisseurs and her husband founded the Luxardo Distillery in 1821 to produce her original Maraschino. The predominant flavour is star anise with hints of cardamom and coriander also on the palate, giving a new velvety sensation, typical digestive aromas of liquorice predominate on the after taste.The main taste is that of star anise with coriander and a little cardamom coming through, creating an herbal delight within those inky black hues.
