About this deal

Copies of original documents combined with an easy to read breakdown of the Whitechapel murders events and gloss pictures makes this a very enjoyable, all be it disturbing read. I have been a 'Jack the Ripper' fanatic all my life and have already about a dozen books on the subject. He regularly appears on television, and was historian on the popular cult show, Most Haunted Live , for several years. I liked that the book included actual copies of the police reports and Ripper letters, rather than just giving a brief summary of their contents. The killer, chillingly nicknamed 'The Whitechapel Murderer', 'Leather Apron' and, most famously, 'Jack the Ripper', is never brought to justice for the slaughter and mutilation of at least five women in the slums of East London.

Maybrick, James: One Incontrovertible, Unequivocal, Undeniable Fact Which Refutes the Diary - by rjpalmer 6 hours ago.It is unbiased, though the way it is set out makes it feel as if the murders have been trivialised a little for entertainment purposes. Philipp will talk about the perception of the Ripper murders in Germany, beginning with how German media dealt with the case in 1888 and what it is like today (spoiler alert: It includes a terrible German TV adaptation of the Ripper murders).

The author not only covers the tale of the Ripper, the victims, London of the time and those who were under suspicion; it could have been any other book on the subject. He was not alienated or psychotic, but an intelligent and cunning individual who - precisely because of these characteristics - the police never managed to catch. During the fight blunt objects had been thrown, resulting in the glass of the window adjacent to the door that entered the house being broken. It made you feel as if you were actually investigating the case for real, not just reading about it in a book.

This book is a great little reference for people who know little about Jack the Ripper all the way through those who are familiar with it. He was of Irish origin, so could have written the " From Hell" letter addressed to George Lusk, which contained idioms from that country.
