About this deal

Plotting an Interstellar Journey (HD, 7:49) — Nolan, Emma, Kip and Lynda discuss the film’s origins, influences and narrative designs, which are big and ambitious, but all deeply rooted in real science whenever possible. So even with all my nitpicking here and above I DO want you to check Interstellar out on 4K, especially if you’ve never seen it yet. Also, for those of you who may have missed it make sure you check out Brandon Peters’ 4K review of Dunkirk here. So when it was announced that he’d direct the long-awaited Interstellar, which once had Steven Spielberg’s name attached to it, people took notice.

Because it looks like you, once again, chose a random shot to judge its composition as if it was a photo. From director Christopher Nolan (Inception, The Dark Knight Trilogy) comes the story of a team of pioneers undertaking the most important mission in human history. The rendering of detail is excellent, as the finest minutia in the film’s variety of textures, as seen in the Cooper home, on the ship’s interiors, or in the landscapes, on Earth or beyond, are reproduced with stark realism. What's so great is that Nolan takes some pretty scientific elements, and creates circumstances which are thrilling and understandable even to the layperson.I know a lot of you are dumping on Nolan for not bringing this to the 4K UHD format with an Atmos one, but trust me there’s nothing wrong with what we have here. Life on Cooper’s Farm – We get a look at the location of the farm (in Canada, not the Mid-West), the immense corn field that was actually planted (and later sold, which turned a profit) as well as some of the accruements of the Cooper place. It is abrupt but jarring as it provides a glimpse of the soundtrack’s dynamic range and deep, authoritative bass. However, I applaud Nolan here because he sought out to make something big, bold and ambitious and by golly he succeeded, but there is one man’s name shrouded in the shadows here that needs to be thrusted into the spotlight and rightfully recognized for the credit he deserves.

Top notch special effects, amazing video and audio quality along with some great performances by a very talented cast. Some might take issue with the on-the-nose nature of the Nolan brothers' screenplay, but the movie never lacks excitement. The story of Interstellar has to do with the same old subject worn over and over in the world of science fiction, the doom and gloom of our planet. Indeed across the entire near-three hour runtime there are only a couple of shots that look even vaguely flawed - during the baseball game when the dust storm lands there's a slightly pastel tone which looks unnatural, and when they hit the ice planet the long shots of the ship make it look just the tiniest bit fake, like a green-screen superimposed effect.

Everything is so appropriately balanced and authentic throughout that I am at a loss for words (imagine that) to describe it all here. There were also up to 15 projectors employed here at one time during this incredible Act 3 sequence. It was explained in here as an array to display time as a spacial dimension and that it was one of the most difficult things to design in the film.

Full-bodied black levels are silky rich and luxurious with spotless gradations between the lighter and darker portions of the frame, adding a splendid intensity to the three-dimensional image and delivering clear differences between the various shades, even during the darkest sequences. They come back to Earth throughout the film, but I never really felt the “gravity” of the situation besides a few dust storms here and there and of course some coughs. At journey's end, the overall package is highly-recommended for fans and those hungering for some of the best HDR goodness currently available.Yes, it would have been nice to have just a little more backstory to Cooper before leaving this world or even see his character initially resist the offer to commander the mission, but in the end, it is what it is and I’m happy with what I have because it’s the emotions that transcend this piece. Nolan's ambitious sci-fi epic goes on the lofty quest for life through the Ultra HD universe with a superb, often stunning HEVC H. Synopsis: From director Christopher Nolan (Inception, The Dark Knight Trilogy) comes the story of a team of pioneers undertaking the most important mission in human history. In addition to the noteworthy bass response this is an active sound design that makes great use of the entire surround platform.
