About this deal

I can remember what it’s like to have a dad who’s not in the public eye, though. While he’s always been an artist, he hasn’t always been a ‘national treasure’.

I think an overlooked part of success is that it takes a lot of work. It might have been nice if he could have had a bit more time to hang out, but at the same time, he made his hobby his job. Everyone accepts the importance of physical health; isn't it just as important to aim for the mental equivalent? Philippa Perry has come to the rescue with How to Stay Sane -- a maintenance manual for the mind. I worry...about what might happen to our minds if most of the stories we hear are about greed, war and atrocity. For this reason I recommend not watching too much television. Research exists that shows that people who watch television for more than four hours a day believe that they are far more likely to be involved in a violent incident in the forthcoming week than do those who watch television for less than two hours per day. Judulnya memang menarik. Kalau baca sinopsisnya, bisa ditaksir buku ini membahas tentang pengasuhan anak. Tapi kan aku nggak akan punya anak, why did I read this? I could be wrong: maybe it has affected me, maybe I wouldn’t have such great fashion sense if he was normcore, but I’ll never know. The only marked difference growing up was that my house had a better collection of face glitter than most.Philippa Perry takes one look at me and gives me a bear-hug. “You must be exhausted,” she says, and she’s not wrong. As a working mother of two small boys who never seem to sleep or slow down, I have gone past exhausted, straight into “desiccated”. Perry smiles reassuringly, banging me on the arm.“Come on, let’s get you an avocado.”

In The Book You Wish Your Parents Had Read (and Your Children Will Be Glad that You Did), renowned psychotherapist Philippa Perry shows how strong and loving bonds are made with your children and how such attachments give a better chance of good mental health, in childhood and beyond. DNF 50%. I don’t like parenting books that focus on what not to do and use extreme examples of “when things go wrong!” This was clearly written by a privileged, middle class mum with just one child. Some working class families, both parents have to work to pay the bills! Some of her examples made me cry. The example of the ten year old trying to kill himself by jumping out the window because both his parents were working full time and he felt ignored reallly disturbed me. I don’t need that in my head right now. I enjoyed reading this book and I think you will too. This book is of the length of a novella and you will comfortably finish it in one sitting or two. Made me think about me and who I am and my parents and who they are and maybe, hopefully, one day what sort of parent I might strive to be Dolly Alderton
