The story itself here is really great! There are themes of teamwork as the diggersaurs work together to move forward, calmly overcoming obstacles as the diggersaurs come up with solutions to each one that they encounter, helping others as they assist the golden diversaurus (eg, a submarine) who was buried in the sand, and following a serious of steps as the diggersaurs work to get to the beach. All of these themes are perfect for young readers. Still, this young boy’s imagination is a powerful force for helping him deal with life, something that should be true for all children but sadly isn’t.

Lots of sweet companies make bags of dinosaur jelly sweets. Buy some big bags and divide the sweets up between your party bags so each child gets three or four. Buy a dino-shaped cookie cutter and whip up a batch of dinosaur biscuits. You can decorate them yourself using coloured icing or get kids to decorate their own as a party activity.These footprint biscuits are really easy to make. Buy a fossil footprint cookie stamp or just press a toy dinosaur's foot into a biscuit before you place it in the oven to bake. You can change 'What's the time Mr Wolf' to 'What's the time Mr Dinosaur'. Or keep it simple by lining kids up at one side or a room or garden and placing the dinosaurs in the middle. Talk about the names for the different diggersaurs, lots of them have names that are about the job they do. Perhaps you could make up more together. Buy a selection of mini dinosaur toys and either place one in each gift bag, or put them in a box with a sign on saying 'adopt a dinosaur'.

I read this one in Dutch, but decided to write my book in English. I love dinosaurs, but I also love building machines and this one combines both of that in a wonderful and fun way that will enchant people like me, but also definitely kids. Love this book. Excited to keep developing the actions with the children into a music and movement session. Appeals to a wide range of preschoolers and also captures a few who prefer stories about dinosaurs and machines over people. If you read this story often, children will remember the words and be able to join in as you read. They will enjoy the sound effects and may like making them with their voices or improvised instruments. The end papers are fun for this too, you could take turns saying the sounds.
