inspired tale about a teen girl finding romance while trying to connect with her absent father in beautiful Santorini, Greece. Liv is my favorite protagonist, combined with the Atlantis lore and the documentary aspect, makes this a near perfect book for me.As if I didn’t already want to visit Santorini badly enough, this book made me want to go even more! Dax’s shoulders were actually the first thing I noticed about him, mostly because I’d sat directly behind him in homeroom, and that first day I was so busy trying to fake the same bored look everyone else was sporting that I could barely focus on anything else. It was nice to see cameos of different characters, but I couldn’t help but see how Love and Olives was literally a carbon copy of Love and Gelato. The main character Liv is an artist and seeing Santorini through her eyes made it an even more visual experience. Welch spoke with PW about the importance of setting, the place of romance in YA, and her journey to publication.

What was nice, however, was that the books (Love and Gelato, Love and Olives, and Love and Luck) are connected, but not a series, not unlike Stephanie Perkins’s trilogy. On the other hand, we can really feel the pain she feels from the abandonment and repressed emotions, so it is understanding why she avoids close connections.That all goes downhill when Liv receives a letter from her dad, who left them when she was 8 to go back to Greece and hasn’t been in contact with them since. I'm thinking this one might read much better for someone who has been enjoying many YA books right now! I did love the Atlantis myth and all I learned about it while reading this, I thought it really brought the story together.
