About this deal

Beach & Beyond – Zanzibar Island is home to mile upon mile of jaw-droppingly beautiful beaches. Top spots include the northern beaches of Nungwi and Kendwa, whilst you can swim with dolphins at Kizimkazi and spot small reef sharks and the odd manta ray whilst scuba diving there. Soak up the sunshine on sugar-like sands whilst doing the absolute minimum, or try your hand at adrenaline-pumping water sports. Did you know that Zanzibar is an AMAZING place for kitesurfing (aka kiteboarding)? What did I say about those trade winds? Friday afternoon, messaging with my work-husband (who has, more accurately, been my long-distance-work-husband for 18 months).

Zanzibar’s weather follows the patterns you’ll find in Tanzania very closely due to its geography. Generally, there are two rainy seasons – the first lasting between March and May (the ‘long rains’, and the second between November and December (the ‘short rains’). During these periods, humidity is high and temperatures usually hit around 35°C. Between June and October, rainfall is out of the norm and whilst temperatures vary according to your location and altitude, you can almost guarantee sun and clear skies. Facts about Zanzibar

My hat goes off to the novel, once again, but I'm now hesitating as to whether I'd put this at the top or even in the top twenty novels that I've loved. Even though, in memory, I always put it there before. Pretty much every hotel or tour agent offers these trips. They can be a little touristy and before you know it you’ll be stood there wearing a palm leaf hat, that some dude made for you and then plonked on your head.

Most of our trips to Zanzibar island are part of longer overland safaris in East Africa, where we stop for a few days of R&R on this idyllic island. We also offer a 5-day beach break in Zanzibar and tours combining the best of Tanzania's national parks with a few days at the end in Zanzibar. Head over around sunset, have a walk around, grab some food and a glass of sugar cane juice, sit on the wall, and just take it all in. Zanzibar is one of my favourite places in the world. It has history, culture, gorgeous beaches, tons of activities, and flavoursome food. If you dine outside your resort at a local restaurant, you can expect to pay in shillings. In essence, locals mostly always use shillings so it’s good to have some Tanzanian cash on you.

John Brunner was born in Preston Crowmarsh, near Wallingford in Oxfordshire, and went to school at St Andrew's Prep School, Pangbourne, then to Cheltenham College. He wrote his first novel, Galactic Storm, at 17, and published it under the pen-name Gill Hunt, but he did not start writing full-time until 1958. He served as an officer in the Royal Air Force from 1953 to 1955, and married Marjorie Rosamond Sauer on 12 July 1958 Stand on Zanzibar has a happy ending. that is, if you consider an ending where one protagonist is basically insane after being brainwashed by the government and the other protagonist learns that the only way to stop humans from being ferociously aggressive animals is to tamper with them genetically to be a happy ending. For the most part, Zanzibar is beautiful all around. You will find beautiful beaches, stunning properties and picturesque ocean views everywhere. Stone Town Or you can take a trip out with the locals and sail the warm Indian Ocean first hand. Make sure they have flippers and eye masks so that you can snorkel! Whilst I’d say that taking a tour isn’t necessary and it’s absolutely fine to have a wander on your own, having a guide for a few hours will provide a great insight into the island (and save you from being lost in the labyrinth of alleyways… forever – just kidding). If you’re looking for somewhere extra special, I’d definitely recommend heading to the Park Hyattwhich is set right on the beach, or Emerson Spice, a beautiful and traditional Zanzibari-converted merchant’s house.Zanzibar has a very rich history and was once one of the most important areas in East Africa. Following Vasco de Gama’s visit in 1499, Zanzibar was ruled by the Portuguese and remained this way for almost two centuries. Staying at the amazing Zawadi Hotel Zanzibar isn’t known as a surfing destination and you won’t find many surfers there, but there are a few spots around the island! The only downside is that conditions aren’t always ideal, so timing is everything. There are two surf schools I know of, Aquaholicsand Surf Zanzibar. They’ll take you to the best places, at the best time. The season generally follows the same dates as the kite surfing season. What is KAYAK's "flexible dates" feature and why should I care when looking for a flight to Zanzibar? MY TIP:If you want to do it a little differently, I recommend doing a spice tour with a Darajani market trip and a cooking lesson from Tangawezi Bistroin Stone Town. A lot more fun and great to see the spices through their full journey. See the Red Colobus Monkeys in Jozani Forest They also offer lessons in music (drumming and other traditional Swahili instruments used in taarab music), dancing, and tinga tinga painting – a distinctive painting style you will see all over East Africa. These lessons support the Dhow Countries Music Academy, so they’re good for everyone! Visit Prison Island (Changuu)

Paje is the biggest town here and is the kitesurfing capital of Zanzibar. The winds blow east to west here almost the entire year. Nearby towns like Jambiani, Bwejuu, and Michamvi are also crowd favorites. Zanzibar doors are something else. Whilst some doors and buildings are succumbing to ruin, there are still many of the original doors intact, ornately decorated, and have meanings behind them.In addition to his fiction, Brunner wrote poetry and many unpaid articles in a variety of publications, particularly fanzines, but also 13 letters to the New Scientist and an article about the educational relevance of science fiction in Physics Education. Brunner was an active member of the organisation Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament and wrote the words to "The H-Bomb's Thunder", which was sung on the Aldermaston Marches. Jambiani:Similar to Paje, beautiful beach (in the picture above), great village, Monday night jam session, watersports, nightlife. To be in the action, stay at Red Monkey Lodge. Travel Insurance: We don’t travel without travel insurance, and neither should you. You never know what can happen while traveling, so it’s best to be prepared. HeyMondo provides excellent short-term and long-term travel insurance plans.
