About this deal

This very fact combined with the 25 year warranty and 91% recommendation from the Sky at Night magazine makes these a fantastic purchase for beginners to astronomy. Worse than that are simply coated or as Olympus describe theirs as having a “Monolayer coating” – this means that only SOME surfaces (they don’t say how many, but it is usually just the first and last lens surfaces) have received just a Single anti-reflection coating.

One difference that really stands out for me is that the Olympus is advertised as only having a “Monolayer Coating”, where as you can see all the other examples I have listed are Fully Multi-Coated. I think that is very sound advice as the Bushnell's have a solid reputation; my sister had several Olympus 35mm cameras over the years and I always liked their design philosophy which I why I made the purchase.Technologies including aspherical coated lenses aand prisms give a high level of optical performance. I wear glasses, and I know from the Olympus which has 12mm eye relief that it's about the minimum which works for me: so that would rule out the Vixen 2. Can i ask if any of you members have/are using the Olympus DPS-I 8x40 Binoculars for any astro work? com is a trading name of Jessops Europe Limited, a company registered in England and Wales, company number 08384909.

When viewing from a fixed location and there’s a need to close-in on a subject, check out the powerful zoom of the 8-16x40 Zoom DPS I. I expect they are likely to be more expensive than the Olympus DPSI though likely less than the waterproof Nikon Action EX model. If you need advice or support for your product, please in the first instance contact the support provider using the number on this support page.

Then as I have discussed, keep an eye on other indicators of quality, like them being water and fogproof. Perhaps one could classify these binos as a cheap and cheerful beginner type which has a good bright sweet spot in the center of the lens, but would not suit a more experienced user. Additionally, the anti-reflection coated optics improves light transmission, contrast with precise colour rendition.

More recently I have used otherwise identical binoculars of the same brand, and the BaK4 models still always present brighter images than the Bk7 models.

Having never looked through the Olympus 8x40 DPS I, I cannot be too specific, but my advice is to always get the best quality binocular you can afford.

My partner had a Nicon Prostaff with same lens parameter in our Safari holiday and I honestly couldn't see any difference. I have used (but never owned) several sets of the 10x50; always a crisp, clear view and have a satisfyingly robust, if lightweight, feel about them.

Although the 8x40s are lighter and give a wider FOV I find that the extra 10mm really helps pick out those fainter objects.
