As if by magic, a map showing more than 400 campsites across Scotland’s mainland and island, complete with site details, recently dropped through my letter box. Since the 1st March 2017 some controversial byelaws came in to force which restrict wild camping in certain areas of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. As it is pretty much impossible to keep midges out your tent as you go in and out, it is best to stay indoors once you're settled or even better, avoid midge hot spots in the first place. Also described are points of interest, amenities in the local area and the ease of beach access from the site.Come down the travelators, exit Sainsbury's, turn right and follow the pedestrianised walkway to Crown Walk and turn right - and Coles will be right in front of you. Your tent is your accommodation, and ultimately, all that is protecting you from the Scottish elements is some material so it needs to be up to the job. Nestled away at the south of Harris, Horgabost Campsite has many incredible assets, but its best might just be its remoteness. Kids love castles and Scotland has many of them, but Stirling Castle in particular makes for a fantastic family day out. These were hard work and we resorted to using our smart phones to find sites near us in Essex and Suffolk.
