About this deal

With Christmas fast approaching, and the snow starting to fall (at least here in the Swiss mountains) my thoughts have turned to hot chocolate, cosy blankets and made-for-TV Christmas movies. It's not until later that his true identity is revealed, though by that time Julie has fallen for him.

I absolutely loved this film and it even made me shed a tear or two about three quarters of the way through. However, as our viewing habits change, and we demand the content we want streamed 24/7 the made-for-TV Christmas Movie is evolving.

It turns out there are, in fact, people who don’t want to watch the same film with a different name five times a day! Meanwhile, one of the big burly Pine workers, nicknamed "Bear", and one of the cute Spruce workers, Holly, have been secretly dating, despite knowing that their mutually antagonistic bosses would fire them on the spot if their relationship was revealed. At the risk of ruining the predicable happy ending — Rick and Julie, our Star-Crossed lovers cheat fate and in a Christmas Cliché epilogue enjoy a totally seasonally appropriate outdoor Christmas wedding a year later. The production values are pleasing on the eye, the scenery has an authentic Christmassy feel and the photography doesn't try to do too much while not being claustrophobic. Julie prepares the drink, putting a small sprig of pine needles in each mug, and pouring in about two inches of boiling water.

Summary [ ] This page about a Christmas special or an episode from a television series with a Christmas theme is in need of a longer synopsis.

The acting fares decently, with a likeable John McGregor giving the best performance with charming, feisty Sarah Fischer close behind. I can’t find any photos of the Troops sequence, but IMDb did provide me with this, some women who were presumably involved with the film? Rick has been promised the opportunity to take over the spruce Christmas tree farm if he likes the work.

Meanwhile, the younger generation engage in hilarious pranks — hanging Christmas trees upside down and defacing signs with silly string. The course of true love doesn’t run any more smoothly for Rick and Julie (Rick and Julie, ffs) who decide they love each other and should break up all within the same afternoon. The ending is actually done in quite a classy and not really cheesy way (Hey, it's a Christmas film there has got to be some cheese Lol) It's a really good funny and lovely film that gives you the feelgood factor also and puts a smile on your face. Somewhat predictably, Rick and Julie aren’t the only ones breaking the rules in a cross-family romance as Bear and Holly are found having a (family-friendly) fumble behind the hay bales.

Later when Julie Pine steals the note pad and reads "Stay away from the Pines," is spelled correctly. It also isn't what some people class as a 'Chick flick' (GAWD, I hate that saying) it is a film that both sexes and all ages can watch and I bet even tho some men might roll their eyes and moan about it I bet even they will secretly enjoy the film (tho they won't admit it Lol) I thoroughly enjoyed it and might even watch it again either just before or just after Christmas.
