About this deal

Like many areas of life – say, marathon training or learning to surf – you aren’t going to see results instantly, and the same rule applies to your hair. Ultimately, the outcome will depend on how strictly you follow your Olaplex routine. I have never been the biggest fan of heat protectant or styling sprays, as both tend to leave a gritty texture in my hair or make it look even more dry than it is. The Olaplex Volumising Blow Dry Mist has completely changed my perception. Giving me expensive looking hair with nothing more than a few spritzes and a rough dry, it couldn't be easier. Start by using the No.3 mask once a week and the shampoo and conditioner every other hair wash. You can then amplify their efficacy by using the No.7 Bonding Oil as a post-wash styling treatment.

After fully drying my hair, the results really impressed me. Not only did my hair appear significantly more volumised than it would usually be, but it also had a gorgeous shine that I am not used to seeing, indicating the health of my hair even after using my drier on its hottest setting. If you've been debating air drying vs blow drying because you don't want to damage your hair with heat, this product will eradicate that fear. What has kept me hooked is the undetectable and surprisingly lightweight spray. No matter how many times I spritz, it never settles or clings to my roots (which is one of my major pet peeves). Once blow-dried, I am always stunned by the lift and body it brings to my limp lengths; my hair looks plump at the roots and flows down the sides of my face with a bouncy wave. When I see the word “volumizing” on any hair product, I usually run screaming. OK, that’s an exaggeration but when you have wavy, frizzy hair that grows larger throughout the day like I do, you’re not really looking for more volume. But I listened when hairstylist Teddy Charles told me that Olaplex’s new Volumizing Blow Dry Mist would be my new favorite for a bouncy blowout with actually less frizz. Unsurprisingly, he was right. Due to the unique bond-building technology that Olaplex uses, the ingredients in each product are quite complex. The Volumising Blow Dry Mist is no exception. I have now used so many Olaplex products that I can be sure it works well for my hair, so the ingredients in this mist weren't my priority when testing. However, it does boast a series of powerful properties. With heat protection up to 232 degrees celsius, plus technology to prevent frizz, cut drying time and add volume to wet or dry hair, it promises a lot. They can be used regularly depending on the extent of hair damage, which can then be lessened once the damage has been rectified. From there, they can be used to combat future damage from heat styling,’ he explains. The Olaplex treatments are based around a patented active ingredient that seeks out and repairs the broken bonds in your hair fibres.

Ultimately, the first four Olaplex products are your SOS steps for bleached or heavily heat-styled hair. But its offerings don’t end here – there are other products in the range that can be used to boost the efficiency of the salon treatments. I can’t remember a time when Olaplex wasn’t in my life; even as a financially struggling student, I managed to budget in my fix. So good and hard-working, it was never ever left in the communal bathroom for my housemates to steal. The No.0 treatment and No.3 mask are add-on treatments your hairdresser might suggest you use at home. ‘They give the user the ability to continue repairing their hair whenever they'd like', says Tom. I wouldn't go as far as to say that I was blown away by this product—though I'd caveat this by saying I try a lot of hair care products as part of my job!—but I think that existing Olaplex fans and those who like to invest in their haircare products will enjoy this newcomer. They contain more concentrated levels of the active ingredient which are only used in professional settings where colouring chemicals are being handled too,’ explains Tom.While I did initially think its name suggested more of a root-lifting volumizing spray, the product is more of an all-rounder that smooths, holds, and adds a little volume and body. It’s not particularly moisturizing, so bear in mind that you’ll need to get this from other steps in your haircare and styling routine if your hair has a level of dryness. I'm looking forward to continuing to experiment with it in my routine. The formulas are powered by a compound called bis-aminopropyl diglycol dimaleate (rolls off the tongue, doesn't it?) which fuses compromised bonds that have been damaged by chemicals, thermal heat, or mechanical factors like vigorous brushing. Consider your personal hair history, too – if you’ve used chemical dye for years, it’ll unsurprisingly take longer to repair the damage. The verdict: Is Olaplex really worth the money?
