About this deal

The game’s fairly stable; crashes are not unseen, but I’ve never had it do anything worse than a clean crash to desktop, and that’s pretty rare. When you've learned everything about the game that will give you an advantage over the armies of darkness, there isn't a whole lot of challenge inherent in the game. Combat is turn based, you can cheat in various ways (I will resist explaining here), and the storytelling is of high quality but not quite Lord of the Rings calibre. We keren terug in de tijd naar de tijd van net na de Riftwaroorlog. We zien een aantal oude bekenden terug, maken kennis met nieuwe helden.

Spells first drain the caster's stamina and then health. Some spells have variable strength; the player can choose how much energy the spell consumes. Some combat spells also require that the target being within line of sight of the caster. If you like Raymond E Feist and Peter Joyce, you can't wrong with, not just this, but the previous saga's too. The game runs in protected mode, using Borland C++'s Ergo DPMI / RTM DOS extender. [1] It remained quite compatible with Microsoft Windows up to the 9x series and works very well in DOSBox [2] and VDMSound. A playable version for Mac OS X DOSBox is also available. xBaK is a game engine recreation which allows Betrayal at Krondor to be played natively under the X Window System, using the original data files. [3] Release history [ edit ]

Based on Raymond E. Feist's Riftwar saga (and co-written by Feist himself), Betrayal at Krondor is a medieval fantasy-themed role-playing game set in the Riftwar universe. When the Betrayal at Krondor first came out it did so miserably at sales that Sierra canceled all plans for a sequel. Later, Sierra rereleased the game on CD-Rom and the game suddenly became a huge hit. By that time, however, Raymond E. Feist already had a contract with a different publisher. Awards

In fantasy, I found, I need everything to blend nicely together, you know? The period of time, the language, the beings that populate the world that I'm reading about, they have to connect, in some way. I even pay attention to clothing, if that is possible in their time and if nothing is missed out, I'm happy.Owyn and Gorath are teleported to Timirianya, where Owyn realizes that magic does not work and Pug would be powerless. Owyn and Gorath eventually find Pug, who has figured out that by abducting Gamina and manipulating Delekhan, Makala has lured Pug away from Midkemia and Arutha's army away from Sethanon and is free to enter Sethanon unopposed and seek out the Lifestone. Using the Cup of Rlnn Skrr, Owyn restores Pug's powers and they find Gamina imprisoned in a crystal cage in the underground ruins of the Temple of Dhatsavan. Gorath smashes the cage and, using a special pattern stone Pug has brought, the four of them return to Midkemia. The "rest" button in combat has a somewhat strange function when compared to the "camp" button on the map. Resting for a round in combat will restore a couple of hit points, while recovering on the map takes hours of camping and the consumption of rations. I was pretty tired of Feist when I stopped reading his stuff about a year ago but this is a relatively short book and I just decided to read it since I own it. Then as the story got moving, it was actually really fun, it’s not a serious fantasy by any means, but it’s quite fun. It felt like a playful romp in a setting that I used to know well. But… 3/4 of the way through, I started getting bored and by the end I was very bored. With the try-succeed pattern repeating throughout the story there is a sort of childishness to the plot, because there are a LOT of plot points but they’re all glossed over at high speed so the characters can move on to the next “quest”. There’s no real tension in any of it, even during the siege that Jimmy has to command. I think if Feist had approached writing this with more humour it would have worked so much better. Instead it reads like a poorly aimed stab at an epic fantasy that just falls completely and utterly flat. The RiftWar is done. But a fearsome army of trolls and renegade humans, emboldened by the drug of destruction, has risen in strength from the ashes of defeat. There is one, however, who defies the call to battle... I struggle to listen to a lot of audio books, especially in this genre. There are so many different races and accents in them, that, for me, it can be hard to listen to and/or follow. Invariably, I end up giving up after a few chapters and buying a physical copy too.

The game has two possible views, the 3D first-person view and the 2D top-down map view, where the player is represented with a triangular marker. The overworld is completely mapped, but other locations are automatically mapped in the top-down view as the player explores them. The player can also view the full map of Midkemia and see their location. Betrayal at Krondor: Midkemia – a realm of enchantment and ancient magic where elves, dwarves and man once battled an unimaginable evil across rifts in time and space. The legends tell of a boy named Pug who would become Master Magician. His friend, Tomas, would wield the unearthly armor of the Valheru and command the armies of Elvandar to fight the final titanic battle at Sethanon. In Betrayal at Krondor experience an all-new tale in the Riftwar legacy as you travel the world of Ramar. By the end I was skimming like mad, assuming I could just read the 'previously in' section of book 2 of this series to figure out anything I missed, I was that bored.

A quest log or similar would be very nice. Often, people will not repeat information they have already given you, so if you forget some piece of information, tough. This is mainly concerning the sub quests. When it comes to the main quest though, the game is a bit more helpful. Antara strived for realism. Your characters got hungry and tired. This was a good feature but poorly implemented. The first time I played the game my characters starved to death before I could get them to the first location. The view of the game, the combat system and the character development are all adequate. The graphics are good enough, but doesn't matter that much to me anyway. The music is absolutely fantastic, and creates a good atmosphere. The world is great both in terms of size and quality, the story is good, the freedom to explore fantastic. The world is based on the books of Raymond E. Feist (in my case, the game brought me to the books, rather than the other way around), and is a rich fantasy setting that feels as much as a second home as does Hyrule and Middle Earth. The only good character is Gorath but he alone could not save this book. The rest of the characters feel like NPCs - so one-dimensional and void of personality. It was hard to remember and understand the motivations for the actions of the various villains, which made following the plot even harder. I could understand the constant moving from place to place but I never saw the bigger picture. There was no tension in the story - even when some of the heroes were besieged and facing impossible odds, I never felt any despair for them. Maybe because the writing was so flat.
