Connect your USB Type-C enabled Mac or iPad Pro to an HDMI display with the Apple USB Type-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter. To connect your iPadto high-resolution displays, use a USB-C cable that supports high-bandwidth connections, such as the cable included with the display, the Belkin Thunderbolt 3 Cable (USB-C to USB-C),or the Apple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) Cable(sold separately). 2 Just resolved this on a brand-new Macbook Pro. For this update you need to read the release note: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205858 - quote, bold type is mine: If you have two iPadmodels with USB-C ports, you can connect them directly with a USB-C cable. One iPadwill draw power from the other. If you want to change which iPadcharges, unplug the USB-C cable and then reconnect them. The USB-C port on your iPad connects to external displays so that you can watch video, play Keynote presentations, and more on a larger screen. Depending on the display that you're connecting to, you might need an adapter. This adapter allows you to mirror your USB-C–enabled Mac, iPad or iPhone to your HDMI-enabled TV or display.

I have a MacBook (2016) and the first time I plugged in my USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter it prompted me to install an update to the driver - I didn't complete the installation at that point. Up to 5K for iPad Pro 11-inch (1st and 2nd generation), and iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd and 4th generation)If the device that you're connecting to has a USB-C port, all you need is a cable with USB-C connectors on each end, such as the cable that came withyouriPad. iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPad Pro 11-inch, iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation and later), MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019), MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017 and later), MacBook Pro (13-inch, four Thunderbolt 3 ports, 2020), MacBook Air (2020), iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017 and later), iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2017 and later), and iMac Pro (2017 and later) MacBook Air (2018), MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016 and later), MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016), iMac (non-Retina, 21.5‑inch, 2017), and Mac mini (2018)Simply connect the adapter to a USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) port on your Mac or iPad Pro and then to your TV or projector via an HDMI cable (sold separately). Use the standard USB port to connect devices such as your flash drive or camera or a USB cable for syncing and charging iOS devices. You can also connect a charging cable to the USB-C port to charge your Mac or iPad Pro. Your USB-C Power Cord must be plugged directly into your multiport adapter (which is plugged into your laptop) when doing the reboot. Having the adapter plugged into one port, while the power cord is plugged into another of your laptop's ports will not work. Just ran into this problem on a 2016 13" Macbook Pro w/o touchbar. I found a suggestion on Apple's forums to flip over the USB-C cable from the adapter to the laptop. This made no sense, but I did it anyway while I looked for other answers. I don't know why, but it worked. I'm dumbfounded.

The Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapteris also compatible with iPad. The Ugreen USB-C 4 port hub is squarely aimed at people who simply need more ports. Get this if you don't care how fast they are or whether there are any extras – you just get four USB 3.0 ports and nothing more. That's fine for connecting various devices (including chargers) but don't count on being able to plug in a monitor or slot in an SD card here.
