Deathwing marines instead use their left kneepad for squad and personal heraldry, often sporting designs with some special significance to the chapter and its history. Next up comes washes. I wash the robes with Agrax Earthshade. You could also skip wash painting in this step and use mixes of Agrax and your bone colors for fills between folds. Belial is the Grand Master of the Deathwing, bone-coloured Terminators who stalk the battlefield as stalwart masters of destruction. Clad in ancient Terminator armour, Belial is one of the most fearsome warriors the Dark Angels have ever seen, with a loyalty unmatched among even his sturdy brethren.From this point all that’s left is to paint the details on the cloak, such as the sword emblem and the striping on the tabard. I painted them red because this particular conversion is for a Fallen. Now, you should be able to field a Dark Angels army with pride, adding to it as you see fit, and evolving it into a force that can take on anything the galaxy can throw at you. Before I start, I want to say thank you to everyone who has been answering my barrage of questions as I step into this hobby as a rookie. You all have been so welcoming and awesome and I appreciate all the information and advice you have offered! There are many things to fear about the Dark Angels, but, in some ways, Brother Asmodai is the most fearsome of them all. Acting as their Master Interrogator-Chaplain, he is responsible for rooting out heresy or deviation, no matter what form it takes. Zealous and cold-hearted, Asmodai is a terror on the battlefield – but so much scarier if you meet him in an interrogation chamber. Techniques for painting the core elements of the Dark Angels, from bone-colored robes to power weapons to lenses and purity seals. Warcrimes – Destroyers and Interemptors become Troops; terrain becomes more difficult and dangerous for your opponent; dangerous terrain gives you a bonus to wound.

Without Lion El’Jonson, the First Legion fought across the galaxy at the Emperor’s side, becoming grim angels synonymous with death, until the chance discovery of their Primarch on Caliban. As they descended to the planet’s surface, they tested him to prove his worth, then raised him to lead them into battle in the distant regions of the universe. Of the options available in the box, what would your recommendations be for their weapons and gear? Are there some you would recommend I magnetize over others? I do have the codex, I just don’t know what is generally good, and what is generally bad.

Step 1: Basecoat

Schemes from different painters for each of the Dark Angels’ famous companies, the Deathwing and the Ravenwing. Now it’s time for the lettering. The “correct” way to do this is to use a very fine pointed brush and and paint lines with a dark brown. But if you want to go faster and have an easier time with it, I’ll let you in on a secret: Micron pens. The .005 pen gives you a very small point and is perfect for drawing the lines that work on something like this. Regardless of which Chapter I choose, what's the best way to get started? My plan was to buy a combat patrol box and get that assembled and painted up so I'll have a small force. If I go for Dark Angels, I assume it makes most sense to get the Dark Angels Combat Patrol. But honestly, the units in it appeal to me the most even for Ultramarines, would that be a viable choice? The final battle between adopted father and Primarch son was colossal, leading to the mortal wounding of El’Jonson, and the capture of Luther. Thwarted yet again, the Chaos gods opened a rift in the Warp, scattering the disloyal sons of the Lion across both time and space, shattering the planet Caliban into a field of debris.
