All the different story links and characters are confusing too. Again, this screams that there has to be a second book. If not more. I KNOW, I KNOW. It wasn't the most awful thing I've ever read. The characters were (eventually) kind of likable. The writing was never phenomenal, the plot never award-worthy, but the romance wasn't all that terrible (please let it be clear that it wasn't what I would call good, either).
