About this deal

There may be larger and more capable power stations on the market, but the EcoFlow River 2 is the perfect model for the vast majority of people. It is compact and light enough to go just about anywhere, and it delivers good performance while remaining highly portable. But battery capacity isn’t the only measure of a power station’s usefulness. The other number to keep in mind is power output, which is measured in sustained watts. Despite its small size, the River 2 Pro produces 800W of power and can handle a surge of up to 1,600W. That’s enough juice to run 80% of household appliances, including a mini-fridge, an LCD TV, a fan, or a Wi-Fi router. While the River 2 Pro offers top-notch performance and plenty of features, its onboard LCD screen is about as basic as they come. The display provides information like the current charge level and how much power is flowing in and out. The performance with lighting equipment was equally impressive. The RIVER 2 Pro managed to keep the Rotolight ANOVA Pro II lights running for an estimated 10 hours off a single charge or two lights for a solid 5 hours. If you don’t have a large budget OR if you think you will only be charging your phone, tablet or laptop multiple times over say a weekend of camping then the River 2 will be perfect for you.

Cigarette lighter 12V lead for charging in a car or similar – the other end of this cable is an XT-60 connector EcoFlow’s revolutionary X-Stream Technology redefines portable power station’s speed of chargeability, eliminating the bulky adapters. With the built-in smart inverter, the RIVER 2 delivers a fast-recharging performance. Charging time – 0 – 80% in 48 mins and 0 – 100% in 70 minutes – this is one of the fastest charging Portable Battery Generator on the market. That’s not all. The RIVER 2 Pro is light at just 7.8KG and uses an integrated lithium iron phosphate battery. Long Lasting and Safe Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO 4) Battery Technology A 50% increase in storage of 256Wh is significant, but how it impacts you depends on your energy consumption between charges. If you need to power devices longer or run appliances, consider the Pro for extended battery life and greater power output. AC Output (Maximum Wattage in W/kW) RIVER 2 Pro is powered by a premium LFP battery (LiFePO 4 battery) with a huge 3000+ life cycles, this is 6 times longer compared to the industry’s average of 500 life cycles. If used once a day, RIVER 2 Pro can be used for ten years. The advanced BMS protection keeps everything safe, monitoring, voltage, current, and temperature. Use the EcoFlow app to control and monitor RIVER 2, even from afar. View charging levels, customize settings, and adjust charging speeds, all from the convenience of your phone. On the other hand, RIVER 2 Pro offers substantially more power. With an operating AC output of 800W (1,600W of starting power with x-boost), RIVER 2 can power up to 80% of high-wattage appliances. Remember that even if you attach a 160W solar panel, the maximum electricity it can generate when connected to RIVER 2 remains 110W. It’s crucial to understand that solar panels (from any manufacturer) rarely reach their total rated power output due to environmental conditions like temperature and other factors. Using cutting-edge LiFePO4 batteries, RIVER 2 Max and Pro have an equally impressive cycle life of 3000 cycles to 80+% capacity. After 3000 complete cycles, the battery will still function at around 80% capacity. The River 2 is an updated version of the original EcoFlow River, and the main change is the adoption of Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) cells as the battery technology. There is only one colour scheme available – dark grey for the main body of the River 2, and a lighter silver grey for the top face and edges, including the handle. It certainly looks stylish, and fits in well with the rest of the range ( for example the Delta 2 – see our review here).

However, EcoFlow portable power stations don’t support 0ms switching. For most electronics, a 30-ms interruption in power is negligible. You may not even notice it. However, there IS an interruption — unlike with a UPS. The RIVER 2 Max has an AC output of 500W (1000W starting watts with x-boost). That means the highest wattage appliance it can run is 500W with a maximum starting wattage of 1000W. The RIVER 2 Max can also operate several devices simultaneously as long as their total wattage doesn’t exceed 500 running Watts. The 220W PV panel comes at a higher price, and some of the energy it captures will likely go to waste… You can recharge while you operate using any of RIVER 2’s four charging methods — including solar panels. Can I Connect Two RIVER 2s Together in Parallel? All of these ports make RIVER 2 the most versatile 7.7 lb (3.5 kg) PPS on the market. But every port is also an opportunity for water to make ingress into your PPS. While your RIVER 2 will surely survive a slight sprinkle, don’t leave it outside in the rain — and don’t immerse it in the water! This brings us neatly to the EcoFlow River 2 which is the entry-level model in their range, boasting a 300W output power inverter and 256Wh of storage capacity on board. These are not big numbers, but then again this is a relatively inexpensive product to buy, so it’s ‘horses for courses’ as we said at the outset – you get what you pay for! All EcoFlow portable power stations turn seamlessly into solar generators when you add solar panels. Both the RIVER 2 Max and Pro have a maximum solar input of 220W and pair perfectly with one 160W Portable Solar Panel or 220W Bifacial Portable Solar Panel. Or, you could opt for up to two 100W Flexible Solar Panels for a rated power wattage of +/- 200W – 220W. Number and Type of Outlets/Plugs

The faster a portable power station recharges, the sooner you can use it again. That’s great news for anyone who chooses the RIVER 2 Max or RIVER 2 Pro, as both offer impressive charging speeds 5x faster than the industry average. The River 2 arrived from EcoFlow wrapped in a polystyrene protective shell and within a pair of cardboard boxes. Very little chance of transport damage possible. Inside the box, you don’t actually get that much: Yes, it’s a true sine wave output device rather than a simulated sine wave output device. A true sine wave system produces much “cleaner” electricity output for any connected equipment. In contrast, a simulated sine wave device has a much choppier and less stable output.

For example, if you want to power a 50W laptop and a 200W 20” (50.8 cm) box fan, you’d get a total wattage of 250W. Divide the 256Wh capacity by 250W of power needed, and you could run these appliances for roughly one hour. The RIVER 2’s maximum solar input is 110W. While using a solar panel with higher-rated power might not damage the PPS, you won’t generate any additional electricity — you’ll end up wasting any solar energy captured that exceeds the 110W solar input cutoff point. Both technologies have their fan base, with traditional lithium-ion (NMC) having better energy density and efficiency than LiFePO4. However not by much. In contrast, LiFePO4 is safer and can withstand many more charge/discharge cycles. About 6x as many (3000 vs 500) before the storage capacity has dropped to 80% of the starting amount. If you’re fully discharging charging the River 2 every single day for 8 years, it will still have 80% capacity available to you. Pretty reassuring in our opinion. Battery Capacity of the River 2 However, just because the RIVER 2 is among the most durable portable power stations on the market doesn’t mean you should drop it in the ocean. For one thing, RIVER 2 has multiple AC, DC, USB-A, and USB-C ports so that you can charge all your devices at once. One of the most impressive things about the River 2 Pro’s design is how many charging ports EcoFlow managed to squeeze into its form factor. The unit comes with four full-size 120V AC outlets, along with a 12V DC vehicle charging port and two 12V “barrel-style” ports. It also has three 2.4-amp USB-A ports and a single bi-directional 100W USB-C PD (Power Delivery) port.
