About this deal

At four months you were already walking upright,’ she was saying, and Twig heard the pride in his mother’s words. Im ersten Kapitel hat einen guten Überblick über das Klippenland bekommen, in dem die Geografie sehr schön beschrieben wurde. After a gyle goblin guides him to safety, Twig meets an injured banderbear, one of the forest's dominant predators. Perhaps they will be in future books, but in 'Beyond the Deepwoods' alone, it felt like everything was on the conveyer belt from the Generation Game: everything passing by quickly, and never sticking in your memory.

Immerhin habe ich das Buch dann doch noch zu Ende gelesen, und das zweite Buch aufgrund des gelungenen Abschlusses angefangen. Soon, Twig and the banderbear become great friends, but one day the banderbear is killed by a swarm of wig-wigs, ferocious predators which act like piranhas. Die englische Originalfassung ist so ergreifend geschrieben, das kommt auf deutsch einfach nicht so rüber. I won't spoil it here for anybody but I think everyone who has read this book will understand exactly what I mean. Chris Riddell's dramatic line drawings are the perfect complement to Paul Stewart's striking words in Beyond the Deepwoods, the first book of The Edge Chronicles.Seuss and Lewis Carroll"; [6] Kirkus Reviews said, "Good fun, though the supporting cast tends to overshadow the plot. It's a bit of a mental, no-holds barred escapade through slime filled tunnels and forests filled with toothy terminators. This book is about a 13 year old Twig who discovers that he was abandoned at birth by a unknown person.

The first books in the edge chronicles were all 5 star, but now the fourth book in the series really takes the biscuit. I am so relieved I didn't think it was not as good as when I was a child, as that has happened with re-reading some of my childhood favourites. I read this at the age of about 9 when it t came out as the author and illustrator did a talk at my school; the illustrator even drew me a personal picture!Twig spends a few months with the trog girl, but eventually she undergoes the termagant trogs' maturation ceremony by drinking sap from a bloodoak root, turning her into a monstrous brute like the other adult female trogs. There's a lot of emotion in this one and I didn't expect to cry that much for a children's book but they got me. The Gloamglozer was in fact the slaughterer who told Twig to leave the camp, the gyle goblin who showed Twig out of the colony, the Flat-Head Goblin who pulled Twig out of the quickmud, and the trog male who helped Twig escape from the trogcombs. The setting is dark and colourful and a little bit twisted, with frequent gross-out moments to appeal to the target audience. Huge with tree-trunk legs and arms so long that their knuckles graze the ground, they have two tusks which curve up from the jutting lower jaw and large, doleful eyes.

When Cloud Wolf realized this, he was emotionally tortured by the thought, and left while Twig was sleeping.

He sets off to find his true kind when he learns from his adoptive woodtroll mother that he is not a woodtroll after all, but was found abandoned in the woods and taken in by them. As I said before, they live on a Ledge and everybody is so scared of falling off the edge, but you never get told what is down there and nobody ever thinks to take a sky ship and Sail down into the mist over the edge.
