About this deal

Although Chef de Cave Gilles Descôtes described 2017 as "the worst since 1893", Bollinger continued to innovate. Over the years the vineyard holdings have been steadily increased with the largest expansion taking place under the stewardship of the legendary Mme Lily Bollinger. We are avid supporters of Bollinger and our CEO's dog, Bolli, is even named after this iconic house. We tasted the Vins Clairs at the winery in Aÿ last month and the house are optimsitic - even drawing likeness to the magnificent 1988 vintage! The creamy character of this cuvée is due to the special production process in which some of the wines are fermented.

They were the first Champagne House to be awarded a Royal Warrant in 1884, by the Court of England, which it has held ever since. This exceptional cuvée, with its distinctive personality, continues to be one of the best entry wines to the range from this house and is a benchmark wine for them.It is cellar aged for twice as long as required by appellation regulations with only a moderately dosage or between 7 and 8 grams per litre, to keep it as taught and crisp as possible. Champagne Bollinger was established in 1829 by Jacques Bollinger and to this day is still family owned and based in the town of Aÿ. Today on The Friday Bubble, Essi Avellan MW and Nick Baker, Founder of The Finest Bubble introduce Champagne Bollinger’s new release, the 3rd interpretation of the PN series, TX17. They mention that it arrived well, the packaging was all spot on and that it's a great champagne with a good palate. This embrace of nature is fundamental to the Bollinger approach of respecting the environment, which has seen it be the first Champagne House awarded the Haute Valeur Environmentale certification.

At Bollinger, the brick walls, exposed wood floors, aged casks and rustic charm convey the beauty and tradition of a Champagne family, who have spent 158 years perfecting their secret of discreet luxury, the key to which lies in the quality and the detail of their wines. This impressed on labels and minds what the tastebuds already knew: that Special Cuvée was truly very… special. The house charter states that 70% of grape supply must always come from the firm’s own vineyards, defining the standards of excellence that are synonymous with the Bollinger name. Please note, whilst the majority of parcels sent on this service are received next day, this is not guaranteed. Decided to treat myself to a nice bottle of bollinger for Christmas day and really enjoyed it, the flavours were amazing really worth spending extra on a nice bottle of bubbly.Bolly is one of the most arresting of all Champagnes because the wines are fermented in oak barrels, giving the flavour an extra dimension of power and nobility. Its durability and resistance to spring frosts make the Marne Valley, a notorious frost pocket, its natural home. Special Cuvée is composed of over 85% Grand and Premier crus of the three main Champagne varieties: 60% Pinot Noir, 25% Chardonnay and 15% Meunier.

In 1911, Georges Bollinger’s British agent gave him the idea for the name Special Cuvée - “special” written the English way, without an accent. The style owes much to fermentation of the wine in oak barrels which is unusual in the Champagne region. The wines of Bollinger are always rich and distinctive in style, fine ambassadors of a house that continues to build its reputation on classic, complex Champagnes with the ability to age gracefully. And if that wasn't luxurious enough, the wine is then aged for double the legal requirement, so expect nothing less than excellence in every sip. Look out for that lot code, as this is a particularly stunning rendition of Bollinger, almost certainly improved with the bottling in magnum.

Bollinger produces classic, complex, Pinot-Noir dominated champagnes with the ability to age gracefully for many years.

Richness of spicy-earthy notes carefully intertwined to the lemon, apple pie, baked pear, cinnamon and vanilla tones. One of our responsibilities is to ensure we do not sell age-restricted products online to people who are under the minimum legal age. Pinot Noir represents 60% of the House’s vineyards, corresponding to its exact proportion in the Special Cuvee blend. The name of Bollinger’s emblematic champagne, with its English spelling, encapsulates its entire history. It has a fabulous nose (some Bubbly has a certain smell that when putting to your mouth to take a sip/gulp up to you' :-) .The Cellarmaster aims to express the full array of aromas through the barrel ageing of several crus. It bears out the House’s hallmark know-how and ability to recreate year after year a cuvée with a constancy of style and quality. Firstly, a large proportion (85%) of the grapes are from grand cru vineyards, and 60% of the blend is Pinot Noir both of which contribute towards the generous and concentrated style of the wine. This is a complex and elegant Champagne with a wonderful combination of velvety bubbles and flavours of pear, brioche, spice and fresh walnuts. Bollinger’s untamed beauty reflects the spirit of our time, when people seek luxury without artifice.
