Some of his comments about how without her diagnosis, they wouldn’t still be together, or how without the early relationship honeymoon phase, they wouldn’t have made it…made me wary. It will also help to educate partners, parents and friends, to help them move from frustration to patience, understanding - and love. It gives the impression that those with ADHD are second class citizens, and has an air of ownership about it. I have an undiagnosed ADHD partner (it was my therapist that suggested he might be) and since looking into certain behaviours, things make so much more sense. So, considering this book was penned in 2022, this means her idyllic relationship is still in its relative infancy -- and if it wasn't for her patient partner, it probably would have collapsed after a few weeks.Thank you for making me feel so seen and understood, and giving me words to describe what’s going on with me. I found this book via the couple’s social media, which posts lighthearted, loving, fun and informative ADHD scenarios. I have a feeling the author is struggling with something more than ADHD or maybe is on the extreme side of the spectrum. It could have been a decent read if the authors had chosen to tell it as their narrative instead of some form of truth. It’s a minefield – and often even people within one community can have really differing views on the language they personally prefer – but I think if you’re trying to be fair and sensible and understanding – then you’re on the right path.

And Rich's side of the ADHD struggles makes me hopeful that I don't have to hide that part of myself away. Pink and Emery reinforce the point that acceptance doesn't equal "no accountability" but rather realistic, practical strategizing. You can have swollen ankles, a bad back and piles without being ‘on the pregnancy spectrum / a little bit pregnant’ – showing you can share symptoms with something without actually having the diagnosis. She’s writing on the board, going through her notes, doing everything she can to make her audience understand the finer points of supply-and-demand law. And to paraphrase the great Kathy Burke, this is not so I can be considered ‘woke’ but so I can be considered less of an ‘ignorant f*cking tw*t’!I’d recommend this book for anyone struggling with deep despair caused by the ADHD in yourself, your relationships or your family; it’s full of hope, genuine compassion and practical tips. Anecdotal evidence is great, but when you reference things about ADHD symptoms as facts, you probably ought to include more information on that. Both things I had been living with and struggling with for years (ADHD my whole life) without knowing what was wrong. It's clear they've both done a lot of work in therapy (separately and probably together) and they pay it forward to people (like myself) who are fresh on their journey and still processing.

However if you want an introduction to the basics of ADHD- perhaps you're questioning whether an ADHD diagnosis fits you, or you're looking for some tips for common ADHD symptoms- then this is a good book to start with. You are both a credit to the ADHD community and through this book have provided me with hope when looking into the future! These are funny, true, and sometimes unexpectedly touching, and the book brings all of this to the table.I couldn’t help giggling at the “hyper-focusing on this book” line as I sat doing oddball tasks intending to do just that.
