You must constantly watch what your opponents are doing, all while planning your own route to victory. Their architectural achievements have withstood the ravages of time and stand as a testament to this once great empire. At this time, they will also score any points awarded to them by the cards that they may have obtained from the market.

A player or two with analysis paralysis can make me a liar but there is really not that much here to weight that heavily. In Imhotep, the players become builders in Egypt who want to emulate the first and best-known architect there, named Imhotep. Someone will get a red market card that allows them to place a stone on a building site, circumventing the sailing phase entirely.It’s not like that many more spaces open up between three and four players, but now you have even more players fighting for a limited supply.

Windows have unique color and shade requirements, and similar dice may never be adjacent so placing each die is more challenging than the last. All of the building sites remain open for all of the rounds so you always have full choices, but with more stones in the sites, it gets harder (on some) to get optimal points. The real star of the show comes from the multiple tile types and how they are all used in different ways along your “player board” area.Each player is going to get some of the player figures in either white or black, and you’re ready to start! Having a ton of your stones on one ship isn’t necessarily a bad move, but it sets you up for potential negative consequences, because an opponent can pull that ship of yours and dump it onto a spot that won’t earn you as many points. Similar to the ‘B’ side pyramids, the spaces that the blocks take up have some special extra perks to them than just points, one point or two stones, two points, or take a market card.
