About this deal

Alex has OCD which is seriously affecting his ability to do his schoolwork and interact with his classmates.

But Dan has underlying problems of his own, with pent-up anger and sorrow about his brother Ben, who he is close to, being locked up at a secure detention facility. Social relationships, school, bullying, personal struggles, and all of the expectations from the adults that we have to meet are several things that take up a massive portion during that period of our lives. In the end, Alex, Dan, and Ben ventures on Shooting Star, which to me represents that their friendship took time, hard work, effort, and understanding, but at the end, it turned out to be a great adventure of friendship. Does the book contain anything that teachers would wish to know about before recommending in class (strong language, sensitive topics etc.

Alex is terrified and spends his days trying to avoid them, but knows they’ll get him again tomorrow.

Dan's the guy who's bullying him, but he's not really sure why he is apart from the fact Sophie says he should. A moving, humane, funny portrait of two very different boys discovering what connects us all' Kiran Milwood Hargrave, author of The Girl of Ink and Stars 'It's amazing! It's like all my problems are jumbled up in my head and my heart at the same time, but, every time I think of opening my mouth and telling someone, it;s like someone else takes over and shouts. His first children's book, The Bubble Boy, was published in 2016, winning Sainsbury's Children's Book Award in 2016 (Age 9+) and many schools and libraries awards, as well as being nominated for The Carnegie Book Award. Now that the profile of mental health has been raised, it is important that books like All The Things That Could Go Wrong are published. This book is a great take on the way that the random different stereotypes ('geeks', 'bullies', 'weirdos') are inside versus how they're seen in the hierarchical system that is school. I was lucky that a brilliant teacher spotted this and he helped me to confront the bullies and bring the boy's nightmare to an end. Reading is a very intimate experience, it’s just you and the book and unlike watching a film you get to colour that book however you want. Ever since Ben went to prison, Dan has had angry outbursts and spends all his time in a lonely cave by the seafront, working on Shooting Star. Although it defined a huge part of his character, I could also tell that, as a person, he was so much more than his illness.
