About this deal

I can't help but think these would just mask any issue with the central heating system where air would be getting in. Yes you are right, the fibre washer swells when wet and seals the water in, if the water level drops as when the rad has air in it, it drys and lets the air out until the water level wets the washer again.

Replacement manual bleed valves are available in a variety of radiators and designs, allowing a matching style to your home decor and the ability to easily bleed radiators as required. Air may be drawn in if there is a small leak, or dissolved air in make-up water may come out of solution, but this generally indicates a system leak if new water is needing to be added. I am not very knowledgeable in this area but overpumping seems to be a factor when using separate 007's.

The appropriate cure here though is the use of a chemical inhibitor, rather than continual bleeding. The innovative Hydro-seal technology utilizes a ‘dual-seal positive valve closure’ which provides an extended, leak-free life.

If air is trapped within the boiler this may cause pump cavitation or boiling and overheating within the heat exchanger. Construction is of the usual cast brass housing for plumbing parts, with a threaded connection to the pipework at the base. I thought it was a matter of bouancy, a float floats if waters present and drops if air, water forcing up on it causes it to create a seal. I am thinking of installing an Aladdin automatic radiator bleed valve type HV30 but many reviewers suggest these fail after a fairly short period of operation. For that reason most people have to "bleed" the radiators regularly: open a little valve in the top of each radiator and let the air out.

For various reasons, hot water heating systems can accumulate pockets of air in the top of the radiators. Leaving this open half a turn will sort out any small amounts of air in system arising from draining refilling etc. All of our rails can replace the existing radiator in the bathroom and provide a stunning modern look with plenty of space to dry and warm towels. Middle knob fully screwed in - automatic venting (it will shut off automaticaly when there is no more air in the radiator).

I was just intrigued (sad I know) how this type works and is there anything to go wrong inside them. This, and also when I bleed our rads I need to get in the loft and re-pressurize the system or the boiler will display a fault code and lock out? They may be installed at the highest point in a system, but in a system with pumped circulation this is rarely necessary. The valves are fully automatic, requiring no manual adjustment, and will not leak in the unlikely event of failure as a backup failure safety mechanism is incorporated.
