I'm not sure Blum would identify himself as a choate, but his use of the I Ching and Viking Runes, divorced from their cultural context, would fit nicely into theoretical field of chaos magick.This all-encompassing guidebook features an in-depth examination of the Elder Futhark - symbols steeped in mysticism, alongside Icelandic esoteric sigils, and practical applications of bind-runes. And in a later edition that I was able to access online, her book is cited under the heading of ‘GUIDES TO THE TRANSFORMATIONAL PROCESS’ but still omitted from the bibliography. While I don’t agree with everything in this section, it’s one of the best attempts that have been made so far in this regard.

This is a location to post discussions on rune interpretations, rune history, creating a personal set of runes, or explore rune use and techniques. Recently a relative introduced me to The Book of Runes (3RD Edition) along with a set of runes made from abalone. For dessert, Blum delivers a few pages of reference material he's cited and learned from over years of work. First off, this book is beautiful with many illustrations which are a delight to look at and along with stories help make the information enclosed more accessible.Its primary strengths are its psychological depth and its applicability to true self-transformation. You can use the simple 1 rune spread, Odin's Rune, or a 3 rune spread (past, present, future) or invent your own! These fees are imparted by the tax-entities of the arrival country, and are not in any way under our control. The section on “Historical Lore” gives a history of the origins, development, and use of the runes from before the Viking Age up through the modern runic revival. Yes, if you are a beginner interested in runes and Northern magic or more experienced, this is a book to read.

While there’s a core body of traditional lore to be mastered, the runes speak to everyone at least a little bit differently. That's all well and good, but I would guess that the vast majority of people contemplating purchasing this book are anything but runic masters and just want a written source that will give them a good start. In this story you can read my journey, my experiences on operations in Afghanistan and the ensuing pathway that came after.Earlier editions were published with the (in my opinion better) subtitle A Handbook of Esoteric Runology.
