I won’t say too much about what happens or doesn’t happen but I was cheering Grace on and willing her to make a change for her sake and the sake of her kids. I recommend reading Love Heart Lane All the characters are a delight to read about and the small town sounds idyllic combined with the rolling countryside and local beach. From the minute the book starts, Grace was a character that captured my heart and my sympathy, and I was with her on her journey throughout the book.

This was a beautifully written, heartfelt story from start to finish and I loved every minute of it. It’s always a bad sign for a relationship when there’s an engagement at the start of a novel, and so it happens here: young Grace (we realise later she can only be 16 or so), who has run away from home after an argument with her grandfather, accepts the proposal of her boyfriend even though she has severe misgivings about his temper already, because she’s poor and alone and pregnant. I do not feel this takes away from the romantic feel of the book but has you heart growing fonder of the struggles which each character has faced. Still, it is a safe refuge for Grace and her boys as the latter start to thrive in this wonderful environment.To discover the answers and lots more besides I have no hesitation at all in recommending Heartcross Castle. Then there is celebrity chef, Andrew Glossop who lives on the estate in the servants quarters and has his eye on the castle. I try not to go into series part-way through but had to with all these Christmas ones, otherwise I find myself purchasing series and spending ages reading them just to get to the one I got originally, or not even liking them!

A tentative friendship develops between the pair and I loved how this aspect of the story unfolded with both Grace and Andrew bringing out the good things in each other and in doing so learning some important life lessons. Hector is the sort of person who you would love to know in real life, with a heart of gold and not a bad bone in his body he becomes a pillar of the castle. The castle itself and indeed Scotland sound absolutely wonderful and are described in such lovely vivid detail by the author that you can picture if clearly as you are reading. She would do anything for these boys and is making it her mission that they have a loving stable home finally, even if it means scrimping to make ends meet.I know that there are many readers out there that adore the Love Heart Lane series, I am definitely one of them. Fans of the series will know that this is where the amazing community that Christie has built in Heartcross will come to the rescue. I am a huge fan of Christie’s Love Heart Lane series and I think this might be my favourite book in the series so far. All the regulars that I have come to know and love were once again present and I loved all their connections to Grace. Heartcross Castle is full of secrets – especially a lost security deposit box that holds the truth to everything… But when celebrity chef Andrew Glossop sets his eyes on the castle and, to make matters worse, mistakes Grace as the new housekeeper, Grace tells him there is absolutely NO CHANCE he is getting his hands on her home.

We see a lot of her private anguish and regrets from how she ran away from home and what she missed out on. You may have previously seen my review for Christie Barlow’s previous title in this series, The Lakehouse. Heartcross Castle is yet another book filled with relatable, flawed characters that create such a wonderful sense of community that for me it genuinely feels like coming home when I throw myself into each new story.Grace is the main character in this story and we learn early on that she leaves home at a young age. I found that I was going through every sort of emotion that the different characters were going through.

Things definitely don’t run smoothly though as the home she once knew is now crumbling and in dire need of repair and money.I loved the fact it was set in Scotland and the descriptions of the characters, mountains and the weather were very vivid. With celebrity chef Andrew Glossop living next door and clearly with his eyes on the castle, Grace will need to decide whether to work to retain the legacy of the Grandfather or take the money and secure her future. Until one day a letter from the solicitor comes to tell her her grandfather has passed away and she has inherited Heartcross Castle.
