About this deal

This side-splitting tale, which contains an abundance of references to Norse mythology, is hugely entertaining from start to finish. Wry, witty and very funny diary-style story packed with doodles and comic strips about the frustration trickster god Loki feels at having to live trapped in the body of a weedy eleven-year-old boy. My son and I read it together over the course of several nights before bed and it offered the level of humor and wit that we both look for in books.

Despite his contemptuous attitude towards mortal beings, readers will be rooting for him to make the right choices, as he learns about guilt, loyalty and friendship. She's the author of the bestselling LOKI: A BAD GOD's GUIDE series, about the norse god Loki as a mortal child. When Danny accidentally summons a feisty green fairy, he does everything he can to send her back to Fairyland before she causes too much havoc. This book was also really exciting as you got to play detective and solve the mystery of Thor’s missing hammer.

I've overheard my kids telling their friends about it, saying that if they like books by Rick Riordan or Cressida Cowell then they'll also enjoy this one. If you have a kid who enjoyed Diary of a Wimpy Kid - and also enjoys reading about ancient mythology - check this one out! The Loki series is a real favourite of mine and one I am constantly recommended to children and families as they are accessible to even the most reluctant of readers. Told through magical diary entries that reveal only the truth, it's the Norse gods as you've never seen them: hilarious, immature--and prepubescent.

As he records his lies THE TRUTH in his magical (judgemental) diary, it becomes clear Loki hasn’t a clue how to tell good from evil, trust from tricks, or friends from enemies. When Heimdall and Hyrrokkin abandon their “children” to go on holiday, Odin sends Baldur – Thor’s half brother and god of making Loki look bad – to babysit. Overall, I would highly recommend as a class text for Key Stage 2; my class cannot wait to find out how Loki is going to improve his virtue score!
