But I tend to dislike stories where the line between real and imaginary is too thin because there are no rules, so there is no meaning and there are no stakes.For the Wood, larger inside than out, is a labyrinth full of myths come to life, "mythagos" that can change you forever. We have here a powerful and profound work of creation which I believe will be reads, not merely in the present, but in a hundred years time, and in the eternal entanglements and winters yet to come. saw the publication of Mythago Wood , winner of the BSFA and World Fantasy Awards for Best Novel, and widely regarded as one of the key texts of modern fantasy. I wound up wanting to like the IDEA behind this novel much more than the actual tale or the subject of the idea.

The book itself is often listed as a modern classic - that and the subsequent sequels are listed in the top titles (as shown by their recent reprinting in the Fantasy Master series - still think the cover of my copy is better). Steven and Christian's relationship plays out like a see-saw, and the other characters are very one-note, in my opinion. The whole "am I becoming a myth myself" aspect of the main character's part of the story was awesome and there was level of straight up cool-ness in everything going on that I rarely find in my reading these days. In addition to the four tracks Ryhope Wood contains "Hollowings", described as an "absence of magic" or pathways under the world.She is allegedly a warrior princess (not queen) but she does absolutely nothing except be protected by men.
