As you can see, Sony has been hard at work to get this camera where they felt it needed to be, and the improvements to low-light are breathtaking. The a7sii has built-in 4K video that can best your a7r2 since it does almost 1:1 pixel readout to video. The original a7s requires 4K recorded externally, which like those photographers that like to shoot RAW, most serious pro videographers prefer to record externally to better codecs and formats anyways....
The a7 II (right) is a good bit heavier than the original a7. To compensate for the added bulk, the grip has been substantially beefed up. Weight aside, the two camera have remarkably similar control layouts; the a7 II should feel very familiar to anyone who has used any of the other a7 cameras. Like the NEX-7, the A7 is a camera that you needed to spend an hour or two painfully customizing buttons and settings, but once done, it becomes pretty darned good. But there is one thing that makes decision-making diffcult: When I'm looking now at your latest review of the Samsung NX1, I could think that this is probably the right camera for me. Gold award. Dynamic range is important for us filmmakers, it gives us the ability to capture high contrast scenes without over or underexposure, highlights and shadows are saved resulting in an organic, filmic look and in theory gives us more leeway in post production.
