About this deal

From the image and description, the wedges will continue to feature milled faces to maximize spin, and it also looks like they have modernized the sole grind. Offering tremendous value, Costco’s wedges — the Kirkland Signature three-piece set, also provides surprising feel and performance. So many amateur golfers are playing with mismatched golf equipment and big gaps between their wedges.

The generic True Temper on the KS wedge did not feel bad when I hit it, but it is on the softer-flex side. It was good to see the Kirkland spinning at just over 7000 rpm - which was just over 700 rpm more than the premium model. He has an extensive club-fitting and -building background with more than 20 years of experience working with golfers of all skill levels, including PGA Tour players. you won’t notice as much difference between these and top-of-the-range wedges – a premium urethane-cover golf ball is responsible for most of the spin inside 30 yards. Lots of players have had a lot of success with a classic full sole design for decades, so I don’t know that it’s a deal-breaker for everyone.Based on the USGA conforming list, the new Kirkland wedges are produced by SM Global LLC, which is a logistics company based out of Korea. The older version had a weird notch in the shaft just below the grip to add spin, which I did not like. Besides the CNC milling across the faces designed to generate more speed, there’s also a clear movement of weight into the toe for higher CG , similar to Cleveland’s Zipcore wedges (review HERE ) among others. All three of these shafts are wedge flex, which means the shafts are designed to make wedges spin more with consistency. The Three-Piece Wedge Set from Costco comes with a 52-degree gap wedge, 56-degree sand wedge, and 60-degree lob wedge.

Don’t get me wrong, they’re not terrible, but the quality of the grips feels noticeably worse than the quality of the shafts and club heads. The Kirkland Signature wedges are not forged clubs, so don’t expect butter (that’s down a different aisle in Costco). LTD, which is the manufacturer of the Kirkland golf balls, and based on their export records, they also make golf balls for the DTC brand Cut. Absolutely loved the 60 degree from the start—great feel to it, great spin, easy to use around the greens. I'm a little surprised at how quickly they were to get scuffed up, but I can't say that I have noticed a difference with them. That is something I was happy to deal with seeing shots check-up quickly or rip back across a green. I had an encounter with a granite rock on the toe with a lefty shot attempt, and it actually held up pretty well. Another factor that is worth mentioning is the consistency across these wedges – the progressive center of gravity helps improve forgiveness and control throughout the set. I have the Kirkland's coming in the mail, but I'm worried about the gap from PW (cavity back) to the 52. Loft/bounce - Although the wedges don't offer much in the variety of bounce (10* or 11*) between the 3 clubs, I have been able to play tight lies and thick rough without a second thought.

That extra friction of the face-milling is absolutely noticeable and I saw tons of spin being produced around the green, from chips around the green, and even out of bunkers. From bunkers shots, using the full effect of the bounce, to delicate chip shots where more of the leading edge was needed, it provided good, all-round playability.True Temper makes a lot of the steel shafts found in golf clubs; some of the models include Dynamic Gold, Elevate, and AMT. Just more so curious if they too will start to release more affordable products rather than try to fill that market with their previous years clubs "on sale". With the lack of any grind relief and the high bounce, it was difficult to open the clubface and add loft. There will be players that pick clubs that their favorite pro hits, there will be the one brand player, the off the rack with no fitting, the I just want cheap equipment, those that want multiple options from the OEM, and those willing to change a shaft and maybe take a grinder to it. When looking a little bit deeper online, one of SM Global’s biggest product suppliers is QINGDAO SM PARKER GOLF CO.Indeed, the original Kirkland Signature 3-piece wedge set was notable for the impressive levels of spin and greenside versatility the clubs offered, while they were reassuringly solid too. For this reason, you’ll have to adapt the findings in this section based on your own golf game and how that shaft may or may not suit you.
