About this deal

I read some reviews and decided upon the Nemo Fillo as the best compromise between weight and comfort. The pillow uses 'upcycled soft foam' for the filling which increase comfort and provide insulation whilst reducing waste.

Some of the other pillows we studied offer hybrid technology (or versions of it) and compete with the Fillo at a lower weight.Nemo's 2020 Fillo Elite Luxury Pillow is not only small and lightweight, but also extremely comfortable to use thanks to the layer of Primaloft insulation. The Fillo combines the packability of an inflatable pillow with the comfort of memory foam, which strikes a great balance for outdoor uses. We decided to bring clever design and luxurious attention to an often-overlooked piece of gear, the backpacking pillow, which is essential to a comfortable night’s sleep. We enjoyed having it along in our pack, whether we were camping right beside the car or four days deep in the backcountry. We decided to bring clever design and luxurious attention to an often-overlooked piece of gear: the humble backpacking pillow, which is essential to a comfortable night’s sleep.

Luckily, this trip was quite warm for the mountains – lows in the high 40s plus having a double walled tent along meant I had a down jacket that I wasn’t wearing at night, and could roll up in a stuff sack to get me through the trip. To be transparent, it's still an inflatable pillow, subject to all of the drawbacks of sleeping on an air-filled bladder; however, the added padding in the form of the insulation cushion offers noticeable comfort and noise reduction. All said and done I’ll spend 100+ nights under the stars this summer, so my sleeping gear has to be comfortable but also portable enough to bring on the river or use for self-support kayaking trips.

It offers just enough friction to prevent our faces from slipping off the pillow in the middle of the night. Its block-shaped design allows the pillow to easily fill the notch between the head and shoulders, making it perfect for side sleepers. Some testers preferred rolling the pillow up before stowing, while others felt shoving in the pillow as-is was easier.

Some pillows sound like you're sleeping above a tarp factory as every minor move causes crinkling and popping. However, when compared to other (especially ultralight) inflatable pillows, the extra layering of padding in the Fillo does a good job of tempering the sound. The integrated stuff sack is about the size of a russet potato and weighs ounces – small enough to carry into the backcountry. And either way, the stowed pillow is larger than my current Therm-a-Rest NeoAir mattress (and comes in at 3. Nemo's Fillo Pillow is extremely comfortable to use and the microsuede cover feels really soft against your skin. However, unlike a stuff-sac pillow, the Fillow's cover doesn't make a good stuff sac for clothes as the felt doesn't have a true backing.

The award-winning Fillo™ Elite backpacking pillow brings clever design to an often-overlooked piece of gear: the humble camp pillow. Our favorite camping pillow overall continues to be the Nemo Fillo for nailing nighttime comfort and versatility. This pillow's stuff sack is rather small, though, which made it more difficult to get the pillow inside. There are significant sections of exposure as well as the rock wall at Papago, so be prepared for those sections to be the crux of the trip. The Fillo has an inflation chamber with multiple baffles inside, followed by an inch of memory foam, and topped by a soft microsuede cover to combine the benefits of each into one product.
