And I am not the only one who thinks so – Spiel des Jahres Game of the Year 2021 winner is an epic achievement and thoroughly well deserved in my humble habitat loving opinion! When you have placed your tile and token, you replace the missing Habitat Tile and Wildlife Token from the stack and bag respectively. Randomly pick 4 Habitat Tiles and 4 Wildlife Tokens and pair them up in a row – this is your common pool.Furthermore, it's hard to know who is winning until the very end, which makes the game a pleasant experience all the way though. Players score points by creating the most harmonious spatial arrangements of wildlife, and also by creating the largest contiguous habitat corridors. The goal how to score points is randomizes (putting animals in pairs, a straight line, circles etc) which means every game is different. Four tiles are on display, with each tile being paired at random with a wildlife token, so you must make the best of what’s available — unless you have a nature token to spend so that you can pick your choice of each item.

It does suffer some slowdown with higher player counts, however, and you may become impatient for your next turn as you wait for everyone else to make their minds up about what to do. Ultimately, whoever scores the most Cascadia points (don’t forget unused Nature Tokens score 1 point too! Each turn you pick one Habitat Tile and associated Wildlife Token from the 4 randomly paired choices on offer. In that regard, it is the ideal after work game when you are tired from the day but still want to pull something to the table that scratches the board game itch.Take a journey to the Pacific Northwest as you compete to create the most harmonious ecosystem in Cascadia! On your turn, you simply select one pair of tile and token and go about fitting it into your little ecosystem trying to fulfil as many of the animal requirements as you can. I'm guessing the game will become readily available again soon but I'm pretty new to the hobby so maybe I'm wrong and I should grab it while I can?And although I can sometimes be left feeling like a poor relation when solo modes are a simple BYOS, the added scenarios in Cascadia offer more. You start with three hexagonal habitat tiles (with five types of habitat in the game), and on a turn you choose a new habitat tile that’s paired with a wildlife token, then place that tile next to your other ones and place the wildlife token on an appropriate habitat.
